I suggest that you start with an experienced board-certified family physician.  He or she should be able to distinguish glandular tissue behind the nipple from fat.  If there does seem to be excess gland, he or she can also order blood tests to check hormone levels.  At the minimum, you want to be checked for testosterone, LH (luteinizing hormone), and thyroid.  X-rays are not usually done to diagnose gynecomastia.  A mammogram can show the difference between fat and gland, but will not tell you anything more than an experienced physician can by palpation of the breats.  The family physician will refer you to other specialists if it seems appropriate.
