Underwire sizes

I have discovered that your underwire size is affected by both your band size and cup size.  I don't consider myself to be a D cup but the wider underwire of this D cup bra enabled me to get more tissue into the cup and the results can be seen. Out of curiosity I also tried a DD cup and the cups are much larger but there was less space left than I  expected.   It pays to experiment.

Yes, in my experience, underwire sizing is the same as wire free sizing, but different. Let me explain.

I only have one underwire bra in my rotation. It has two-piece cups with the upper portion in lace. I normally wear wire free M-frame bras with three-piece cups, or flimsy wire free sheer cup bras or crops. My size is 40B with a bit of creasing, or 38B if I can get away with it. I do not wear nor particularly enjoy the look of padded t-shirt styles of bras. I don't wear my underwire bra often because the buckles on the straps at the back are prominent.

It was after learning about swooping and scooping here that I decided to purchase an underwire bra because theoretically I could then finally fill out a B Cups properly compared to my wire free bras. Alas, what I learnt was that the cup itself was bigger to cater for that. So, the same amount of spare room as a wire free bra. Deeper but narrower cups with the same overall volume. Maybe this is only due to the differences between brands, I don't know, but I suspect that for those who do fill out standard sizes adequately, it's not a problem.

Swoop and scoop really makes a difference in getting breast tissue into the cups and the underwire can then contain it.  Demi cup and balcony bras also work as male breasts are typically shallower up top so it's easy to fill the cups with those styles.  Thanks for the positive remarks, it means a lot ❤️

Demi bras work magic and are a favorite style of mine. Scooping and swooping really is a tremendous benefit to getting things in position for the day ahead. Even as the tissue settles in and down from the initial volume you may see from it it’s nice knowing the tissue is still where it needs to be overall for the day.

If I can get my breasts properly adjusted in the cups in the morning, I can go all day without making any adjustments. I spend the time to get the band horizontal in the proper position and tension of the straps and compression/tension of the band on my bra for comfort, lift and proper support. I have gotten the time down to just a minute or two but it makes all the difference the rest of the day not having to readjust my bra like you see some women by pulling and tugging on theirs.

I only wear underwires. But for me, I float around a b/c cup depending on the brand. However I've been ordering c cup lately, cause it sits wider and doesn't feel squeezed like a b cup.

As we tend to have wide set breasts the wider underwire will likely sit better around the breast tissue and also help fill the cups. You might find that some D cups work for you.

Breast tissue goes farther back in the pits than many believe. Proper underwire placement has it around halfway in the pits with swooping and scooping pulling that back tissue into the cup ahead the underwire for not only support but comfort as well. Not having all the tissue forward and the tension of the band pulling the underwire into the soft tissue can be very painful. So detail to where the underwire sits in the pits is important on several levels and can affect final size.

I have heard from more than one bra fitter that black bras fit smaller than white ones. Apparently it is something to do with the effect of fabric dyes. I was sceptical so here is a photo of the same bra in white. I do think it's slightly larger than the black one!  Also white bras may  make your breasts look bigger if that is a consideration. I do fancy a white bra but they soon look grubby
