Today I was pleasantly surprised to receive an email from a UK based department store inviting me back for my 6 monthly bra fit. It was a nicely personalised message although it did explicitly refer to women's breasts but I  don't mind as they are the large majority of people using this service.

I called in store today to ask how the recent high court  ruling around access to women's only spaces might affect my fiting and was cheerfully told that they would take me through to the lingerie fitting rooms as usual.  I had expected that they would take me another area or even decline to fit me.  So bra fittings for men can continue in the UK and they have some interesting new bras to entice me.

How wonderful for you! They obviously see you as a customer for their services and not a box on a form. I once had a fitter apologize for using "feminine" terminology when referring to my bressts. I asked her how would she refer to them? There's no masculine counterpart that I was aware of. She said she didn't want to offend me. I laughed and said that if I was here for a fitting, I was beyond being offended. I wanted her to treat me as any other customer. I was there for the same reason any woman would be there. She loosened up after that and I very greatly appreciated she didn't treat me differently. And all I ask for is my breasts to be treated with the same respect any woman's breasts are. That goes for anyone. I don't think that's asking too much.

AlfaQ,  That is so encouraging to hear.  I'm so glad you called in and asked.  I think that's great.

JohnDoe1 is right.  They may feel a bit "off" as to how to say things as they don't want to offend us.  Making them feel at ease, with the understanding we know we have breast, will lighten the mood and make the whole experience go smoothly.

Thanks for all the kind comments.   It was quite thrilling to get an invitation for a bra fit and was an affirmation that I  was now a bra wearer and potentially a customer for life.  If I  didn't benefit from a bra I wouldn't wear one.  I don't wear padded bras and I  certainly don't walk around with socks stuffed in them.   My 6 monthly bra fit will certainly be more enjoyable than my 6 monthly dental appointment.
