NHS PS consult need advice.

Hi, I cross posted this on the main board as well - Im  trying to get treatment on the NHS and after months of being on various waiting lists to see endocrinologists and what have you got to see a plastic surgeon.

My appointment was brief and he talked  alot about flaps of skin and scarring then said I only need lipo as there is no palpable gland. But he said while  I wasnt exactly overweight I am carrying too much fat on my chest and stomach for him to do a lipo procedure accurately.

Has anyone else had that in a consult? I dont think my gyne responds much to weight loss in any case.

I thought the whole point of lipo was to remove fat.Surely if yours is just fat he should remove it.

I think he wants you to do his job for him ... All I can suggest is get down to a low bf at least on the stomach even if the chest doesn't change much. Then he can't moan. :-/

Perhaps he thinks you have pseudo gynecomastia. Think this is  linked to body fat. If you go over a certain body fat % your chest gets bigger.

Ideally i think you should pay £100 and have a consultation with a private surgeon who specialises in this procedure. Even if you dont plan to have the surgery with them at least you would get their opinion.

Far better to be accurate now than to be left with a half done operation and scar tissue, making it harder to redo it with the same level of accuracy.

Yeah Id pretty much decided to get a 2nd opinion - I am mindful that a private PS will never turn away work though, I was just wondering if the NHS guy was giving me the real lowdown about losing weight that you might not normally hear, or if he's just not that familiar with the procedure.

Unfortunatley I was in and out of there so quick I didnt get the chance to ask him any questions.

I would recommend if possible seeing Dr Levick. I consulted with him twice before having surgery. The 1st time was when i just developed gyne and he sent me away saying that it was minor and to come back if it worsened. When making my 2nd appointment, Mr Levicks secretary told me that my files said i didnt need surgery and i had to really be sell the fact my gyne had worsened to get seen again. Mr Levick obviously agreed and went onto perform my surgery.

The morale of the story is that i was initally turned away, so i know of one private surgeon that will turn people away if he doesnt think he can help or their is a need for surgery.

Thanks thats good to know, I wasnt going to see Levick because I couldnt afford to go with him for the op but if he does good consults it might be worth it for that.
