I read several weeks ago about scar tissue coming in.  Forgot now however,

I am 9 days post op and this har rigid layer seems to be forming which I suspect to be scar tissue with some lumbs.  Is it best to massage or leave alone?   Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated

9 days post op leave well alone.massaging now at early age can slow healing and increase inflam.i woul leave to a minimum of 2 and half weeks.give your body some time to adjust b4 you try and help it.i know its hard cos u want results quick but its better this way.

This scar tissue stuff/ collagen whatever it is ,,,,is just wierd.  Its lumpy and rigid.  Hard to believe it will ever go away.  How long does it usually take to disapear?

Preds....

I hear ya about thinking that it will never go away. I got into a purdy bad depression over it. However, with time (a few weeks), it does go away. Just be patient Dude.....   ;)

took about 3 weeks for me to see the full extent of my scar tissue internally and i was very worried as it showed through the skin.was about 3 inches to 4 inches length and 1.5 inches wide max but now i am bout 8 weeks post op nd it has reduced to about half inch wide and about 1 inch length and seem to be reducing as the days go on.so dont worry until about 7 or maybe 8 months into it.

Did not realize it took that long.  Wow.  Hope it's better by summer.  Patience is not used in my vocabulary.  lol.   Guess I will have to learn it.  I go for my follow up next Saturday.  Guess I will try to come up with plenty of questions.

Thanks

  • Surg. Aug 05...Got rev. Apr. 06...Still have breasts!
About 2 weeks after my surgery I started feeling lumpy tissue right around my nipples and under it. After 2 months all the lumpy tissue became 1 small mass right under my nipples. I am 4 months now and the mass has hardened quite a bit and it is now down to about the size of a quarter on each side. In my case I believe its probably scar tissue since it still feels uncomfortable and actually hurts if i try to squeeze it, my fear is that i still have plenty of gland still left since it feels very solid and like you said its hard to believe it will go away. It really sucks cause i expected better results by now...I will just try to be as patient as possible...and am looking forward to my scheduled visit with the dr. in about 2 weeks.

I'm three months post op and have scar tissue on both sides.  The scar tissue on my left side actually makes my areola protrude a bit...I know what you guys mean about thinking it will never go away  >:(  It feels hard as a rock...

Oh well, I guess we all have to be patient...

Hey fourrings, aside from the scar tissue, how does the rest look/feel?  I have my op in less than 2 days, can't wait!

I am not fourrings but I tell you that I am very happy with results so far.  Scar tissue, compression vest, some pain, ect are a few downsides to hopefully a great outcome.  I wish I could have done this 20 years ago.  Glad I did not wait any longer

Preds, what compression vest are you using?  I bought an underarmour compression shirt, essentially a "second skin", so it's really tight but it's comfortable.  Gonna ask the Doc tomorrow about it and see what he says.

After about 3 weeks of using the prescribed vest, I started using the "under armour" shirts as well. I think there great and confortable. I think they do just as good a job as long as you buy the small or medium size. Just wouldnt reccommend it for the first couple of weeks as it will hurt like a bitch to put it on. Also since my gyne is still not really gone I still wear them as undershirts and when i go to the gym. It really flattens up my chest nicely...hopefully soon wont need them anymore.

Its the one the doctor gave me "rainey "  fastens like a bra all the way down.  I used both devices the first 2 weeks, underarmour and vest.  The vest alone would not get the swelling in upper axilary areas and shoulder but the underarmour shirts would.  Now I use underarmour during day and compression vest at night

My vest gives better support.  If I bounce around or hit potholes then the vibration gives some pain.  I notice that the pain is not quite so bad with device on.

It is completely natural tissue and it is expected.  It's fine to massage so long as it doesn't hurt you or cause discomfort.  In fact, despite what someone previously stated, massaging helps it to dissipate sooner.  I used Cocoa Butter with Vitamin E to massage my chest during recovery.

It is not necessarily scar tissue, but healing tissue, and I still have some nearly 8 months post-op.  I also cannot yet feel my nipples and my chest is very sensitive to pressure in some areas.  It takes lots of time to fully heal.

There's nothing to worry about.  Also, compression is only needed for a week.  If you choose to wear it longer, it's for your own comfort.  It will not affect the final results of your surgery.
