After a large weightloss is still had gynecomastia. I Waited 6 months to get a consult with Dr. Ivan Turpin in Orange, CA. I scheduled Surgery for late July. That was the only summer opening, his open bookings start Feb 07. That was lucky.

It gets much better. My family was prepared to shell out the $4,600 and just today my HMO approved the procedure. HOORAY!

The first step was getting my general practitioner to refer me to a PS. I did not have to pay the consult fee as a result. We asked the woman who handles billing if there we could get it approved by the insurance, and she got the ball rolling. She warned us that it was highly unlikely to be approved. Since it is my family's health care plan I do not know what the next steps were. About two weeks later Dr. Turpins office called to let us know that the HMO had approved it. They said that they believed that it was likely to be related to my weightloss.

Just ask your plastic surgeon what the steps are to getting it approved and they submit something to your insurance.
