Phantom good luck with the race. I did a half marathon in 1998 with a time of 1hr39mins 33 secs which wasnt bad for my first attempt, but i got more into weights and gave up on that. Great way to lose fat and get fit.

Soad i sometimes use the speed intervals you mention. The HIIT training were by elevating your heart rate and then lowering it at suggested intervals is supposed ot be excellent for fat burning. 20 minutes doing that on a treadmill and i was done.

i only squat 50kg on a smith machine, but i do go right down and keep a strict form. Dumb bell presses im doing 30kgs presently for 8 reps but have done 40kg for 4 reps before. Think dumbells are harder as you have to balance 40kgs in each hand and then lift. Not an easy task. I dont know what my one rep max would be though.


I am impressed with the dumbbell lift! I am finding it hard to get passed 27 kgs......as the weight jumps up 5 kg...which i think is to much of a step up :( .

yeah the increments need to be smaller, apparently you can buy 1.25kg or 2.5kg magnetic plates that just stick onto make db's heavier. Ive not seen them though and it would be a pain taking them to the gym.

Have you tried pyramids do 27kg x 8-10 reps
then the next increment for as many as you can manage?

A half marathon in under 1h40m?  That's an excellent time.  My PB for the Great North Run was 2h19!

thanks yeah i was 17 at the time and had alot of natural fitness, wish id kept it up now, but i prefer the weights and indoors of the gym. I was also so light back then, 10 stone so running seemed alot easier.

Thats still a decent time for the great north run, hope you beat your record.

I want to start running , but i don't want it to affect my muscle grwoth  :P . But at the same time i want wash board abs.....what am i to do? . Whats is your cardio routine?
Mine doesn't exist yet  :-[

im not consistent with my cardio but yeah if you want to pack on muscle then you cant really do that all at once. However if you want to cut up you can look bigger anyway then do a clean bulk and have abs.

A good cardio routine would be 20-40mins per day 1st in the morning on an empty stomach on any cardio equipment so long as your heartrate is about 65%-80% of its maximum.

Im going to start daily cardio tommorow, this weekend ive eaten mcdonalds, pizza, bacon sandwiches, chocolate and beers  :o

did any of you guys do cardio in your vest if so what did you do about the sweat ,is it best to take it of whilest doing eliptical trainers ect,also how oftern did you wash your vest

I was cautious to wear my compression vest at all times for the first three weeks.  During that time, the only cardio I did was power walking (running would been too painful anyway, besides, you want to restrict movement in the chest area at this vulnerable time).

I'd hand-wash the garment in lukewarm water and washing powder after a workout, let it dry on a radiator and then put it back on.

I was washing it two or three times a week.

Marcus : i waited 4-5 before training.........just enjoy these weeks...pig out ....and then hit the gym :) .

Dumbell presses are certainly much harder than barbell presses.

Yep,they are also better fot targeting rhe muscle....better shape & growth ;D

So what's the concensus here? When can i train after surgery?
I am going on holiday mid june and my surgery will hopefully be the end of this month......do u think i can get at least three weeks training in?
I would liek to train at 2 - 3 weeks? I am fit and train right....so its not a case of a new starter flining them about and ripping things....if u know what i mean,......i guess i just want reassurance...... :P

I don't think that they amount of muscle you have , will affect they amounf of fat removed... ??? lol
I think if you were lacking muscle they might leave some fat behind so you don't look concaved...lol  :P
