How would you tell the difference between scar tissue or gland, when causing contour problems?

How would you tell the difference between scar tissue or gland, when causing contour problems?

Anyone?

It can be very difficult to tell the difference between scar tissue and residual tissue on clinical exam.  Actually on the inside, both gland and deeper scar tissue can look similar, both have a white firm texture.
