Why does having a cold etc affect surg?

The receptionist at my dr.'s clinic said to call her back if I have a cold flu etc prior to the days surgery.  I can see why the 'flu', but a cold???  Are they looking to cancel my surgery because of a cold?  If so, I'll be lying if I do get one.

'cause they don't want to give you anastesia while you already have problems. that, plus they don't want you having to fight off one thing while trying to recuperate from something else.

ya i got the dont take any ibuprofen advil etc - only tylenol...and no vitamins either.  thanks
