'diet aid of questionable value' prolly does work to a certain extent (as a diet aid). If you are overweight and have substantial fatty tissue on the chest, you will prolly find that your m(o)(o)bs decrease in size somewhat as you loose the fat. However the majority of gyne sufferers have enlarged mammory 'glands' as well as fatty tissue and 'diet aid of questionable value' cannot and will not get rid of the gland tissue. Case closed!

Don't waste you hard earned coin on 'diet aid of questionable value'....   8)

Another 1 post wonder

You're spot on BillyBoy.

I think these people should be instantly banned from the site.

If I was to Ban everyone who said something stupid, Then I may well have to Ban myself as well.

Exactly Paa!  Unless there is a direct violation of board rules then we cannot ban a user. There is something called 'benefit of the doubt'...  ;)

The problem is that there ARE people here who ARE posting out of vested interests in order to peddle their wares.  They are getting free advertising and trying to take peoples money by praying on their hopes and fears.  These people are NOT making innocent mistakes, they are malevolent.

Unless there is a stand made against these people you WILL continue to see this subject constantly raised and you WILL need to CONSTANTLY address the subject in order that they do not prevail.  I can think of nothing worse than what these people are trying to do, if you don't ban them or at least ban such postings then you might as well ban nothing.

The site has improved thanks to moderation.  I think to not take action based on some misplaced notion of free speech (it is not appropriate in this context) would be a mistake and one that the members of the site will continue to pay for, because at the very least it becomes spam and the odds are some one will get hooked in sooner or latter.

By the nature of how spammers currently are working this system, the following rule (copied from the code of conduct) can not be enforced:

You man not initiate Spam threads. Any spamming activities will result in an immediate ban of the poster.

You may as well delete that rule from the code.

So then what is the solution (as pertaining to this Site)?

I just noticed, you may want to change the "man" typo into "may" in the code of conduct.  :)

Suggestion:
Just create a new board for diet aids.  Put a big disclaimer at the top of the page warning users of the scam nature of those products and the way some people will try to advertise by misleading posts.  If you see a thread started anywhere else on here, just move it over to the "diet aids" board.  You wouldn't have to ban anyone and new users would be warned.  Plus, we wouldn't have those stupid ads cluttering up the other boards.

The way I see it;

No right is absolute, not free speech, not anything.  If any right is absolute you just have anarchy.  The right of freedom of speech needs to be balanced against the rights of others- that is what moderation of a site is all about.

Given the above....

Sticky at the top of the page stating that the diet aid is known to be useless in the treatment of this condition and it is known that the board has for some time been infiltrated by those wishing to peddle its wares via malevolent free advertising of said goods and that all posts relating to said item will simply be deleted.

case closed.

There is simply no use for this item in the treatment of this condtion and this is the only radical step that will work in order to kick those malevolent imposters off this board.

If this was a cancer support group and someone was trying to say eating a particular brand of sugar helped combat the disease how long do you think it would be before such posts were banned?

We known that this stuff is snake oil, we should not be afraid of having such posts banned.

You ask simple questions;

What is in the best interests of those that come here for help?

Will anyone miss the fact that something that absolutely does not work cannot be raised as a subject?

The fact is it is not in the interest of those that come here for help to be hookwinked by those pretending to be fellow sufferers into buying this snake oil and it is not in the interest of any of the long term posters to have to keep responding to these imposters so as to protect new members who don't known any better.  Also no one will genuinely miss out on the fact that this subject is no longer raised because we know that it is a hoax anyway.

For the record, I agree with Hypo.  What I suggested was a plan B alternative if the moderators choose that no person or threads are to be banned for misleading advertising.  I already showed you in a recent thread where the guy represented himself as new to the board back in August, and then again a little over a week ago.  He's the one who was using every word trick in the book to fool the censor and get the name of his pills out there in front of us.   There's not going to be a more obvious case than that.  Those people aren't going to put as a disclaimer, "I am a shameless advertiser".  If you're not going to ban that guy or his thread, then I take it that you're not going to ban anyone.  No offense is intended to any of the moderators here - I'm just saying I accept that as the reality of this matter.  That being the case, I would rather see those threads at least moved to a more harmless area of the site.

The above post was typed while I was nursing a rather severe hangover and was possibly worded a little harshly toward the moderators.  I meant everything I said, but I want it known that I appreciate the job you guys are doing.   :)

Nip...

No offense taken Dude.  ;)

Yeah, instead of banning the first time 'Have you heard of such'n such... Does it really work?' poster, a stronger stance on post deletion is in order...  Yes, No?

I personally don't want to ban someone if they are, infact,  just 'asking' a simple question with no harm intended.
