Can gynecomastia ever go away without surgery?

I've read on here that some men have developed the condition later on in life (while most get it from puberty).

Can the reverse happen?  Is it possible to have some hormonal changes in adulthood and have the gynecomastia go away on its own?  Just be brutally honest with me.  I'm 21 and I've had it since I was 11.  Any prayer in hell that some of these testosterone drugs my doctors have me on will make it go away?

How severe is the gyne?  When and why did the docs put you on testosterone pills?  Hypo-is-here is the expert on these boards when it comes to hormonal balance.  Hopefully he can give you some advice.

I'd have to say, as far as I know, if you have had gyne since 11 it is very unlikely that it will go away by using pills.  The good thing is that at least there is a way to fix it, even if it means plastic surgery.

Do you want me to tell you what you want to hear or be brutally honest? Can't be both with you. So I'll chose to be brutally honest as I would expect nothing less from you. No, gyno won't go away all by itself at this stage. Though hormonal imbalance is typically the contributing factor to why most aquire this condition, fixing the imbalance won't get rid of what has already developed from it. Though, fixing the problem may prevent further growth/development of more severe cases of gyno in the future. Or, it may prevent regrowth after you have it removed from surgery.

When I find an untreated patient that I refer to an endocrinologist for unstable breast growth who is then put on testosterone, there typically is some decrease in size.  When an endocrinologist puts a patient on a medication like testosterone due to a hormone deficiency, one main advantage is to stop further breast stimulation and growth.  What has already grown may, or may not go away.  Studies of patients getting such treatment tend to be positive. I do not usually see the sucess stories, I get referred the failures - men who did not get a decent decrease in size.

There are many instances of breast growth during life that does resolve on its own.  At birth, the mother's hormones in the blood of the baby frequently have a small breast bud that goes away on its own.  The vast majority of teenagers with gynecomastia resolve on their own without treatment.  A forum like this tends to collect individuals where the breast growth did not resolve.  Being patient and waiting to see what you get can be very valuable for the best results.  Such issues are best discussed with your endocrinologist.

hello,
i found this site last week in a persute to rid of my soft nipples. i have had soft nipples since i was around 11 and it has been a niggling pain in the ass all my life. im 24 now. when i found this site, i became utterly depressed. i am sitting exams at the moment and cannot concentrate..i find myself getting up off my seat regularly and checking the mirror to see if i'm as bad or better than some of the photos posted.
the thought of surgery just makes me ill. i am in great shape and have very high self esteem.......until i found this site.
as dr bermant says above..he deals with patients that have had no success from drugs..but the drugs have been preventative of further breast growth and sometimes help reduce the existing breast in some cases.
this is the first bit of positive comment i have read on the site, which i have been patrolling for days.
which brings me to the conclusion..is this site just full of people who have had no success from exercise or hormone drugs?

i won't be getting surgery..i never even considered butchering my body until i came accross this site..i had being doing too many press ups lately and that was making my gyne worse..so instead i'm gonna lay off the chest exercises. sure it won't do much but whatta ya gonna do?
for the rest of my life i'm gonna stay in shape..eat healthy as i have always done..keep my six pack..have fantastic sex with my beautiful girlfriend who has never brought up anything.. perhaps i'll visit my gp and ask him if there are any hormonal drugs that might help (by the way..any suggestions?)
i can see how surgery is the only way out for some who have convinced themselves that there chest is'nt like the guy next door.. yeah my gyne gets me down..but opening myself up and going through a secret mission to the surgery plus downtime..that's not me.
