The Super Bowl Anthem.

I don't usually watch professional sports, but there was too much fuss made about the Anthem so I looked it up.

I grew up with Jazz and I love scat. I believe that things like the National Anthem should be performed solemnly. This is true of any Nations Anthem.

The problem is that our National Anthem is a jubilant exclamation at the sight of the flag waving in the first rays of the dawning sun. It should not be sung as a dirge. Likewise, it should not be personalized.

The rendition of the Anthem performed today at the Super bowl was good in musical terms but I think it was disrespectful as a performance of the Anthem.

I'm old enough to remember well Mel Torme and Ella Fitzgerald, They were the masters of scat. I cannot believe either of them would have performed the National Anthem in such a way.
