Hello everyone, a new member to this great site.

I am one week on from surgery for bi-lateral gynecomastia performed by the NHS in England. It was lipo only, as the surgeon belived excision was not necessary. I have not seen the surgeon since the operation as she had to leave the hospital shortly after my procedure.

My main concern is that I look no different from before the operation. I know people say you have to wait for months to see the final result - but my chest is not even swollen, bruised or even that painful.

I am due to see the surgeon in another two weeks - but I am struggling to stay positive at the moment. Any positive words would be greatly appreciated.

I'm from the UK too. how did you manage to get reffered on the NHS? I heard it was so much hassle.

How bad was your gyno? do you have any before and after pics?  From all the research i've been doing, depending on your gyno, it's very very rare that only lipo is done.  Did you research into your surgeon at and how much experience she has?

Even my case is exactly as yours only lipo done-no drains/excision and I see no difference post-op.When checked with doctor,he said it's just a fluid and will go off I if massage with a cream 5 times a day and do 10 push-ups in the morning.

Even I am not very satisfied with the results :( .

May be guys in this forum who has undergone only lipo can share their experiences /results, that would be very helpful.

Thanks in advance

Hello daksh, zm - thanks for the replies. A couple of weeks on and there is some improvement, one side looks good, the other looks marginally different than before. I had a meeting with the consultant who said she was disappointed with the left side of my chest - I will be having revision at some point in the future. Her argument for not excising was that she did not want to scar the area and that at the time of operating, the Lipo only treatment looked to have worked.

I was refered by the NHS as I argued it was depressing me, etc, the process has taken about one year to get to this point. I am 5/11, and 12 stone and no matter what I did - I still had gyne. It was hard to research the consultant as she does not do private work, and I had no real choice other than to let her do it. I am still shocked she did not excise, and dissapointed I have to go through surgey again in a couple of months.

Hey mate,
the fact that the doctor said she did not want to leave scars etc, in my opinion is that she's not very experienced.  i went under the knife 2 days ago and already ecstatic with my results.  there is still a lot of fluid buildup but i've prepared myself for a bumpy ride.

the only downside is that i paid 5.2k for this.  however, as long as i'm happy, it's every penny money well spent.

I know know how devastating it is to live with this.  Please do save up and consult a good surgeon then go for revision.  Even though there are been some success stories on the NHS, at this point in time, i would not go back to the same surgeon who did lipo on you.

The other thing to bear in mind is that, it is far too early for the results to show.  The chest area as been exposed to a lot of trauma. There will be swelling, fluid etc.  sides would seem uneven.  give it a good 6-9 months.

Hi zm,

I'm glad you happy with the initial results and hope it all works out, the feeling of getting things sorted must be great no matter what you paid.

My consultant mainly works around masectomy/cancer patients rather than cases like ours, but I feel a little bit stuck with her now. I was worried when she said she did not want to excise tissue - it was clear I had a lot of tissue on one side. The thing is there is no swelling or pain in the larger side of the chest - she has just removed excess fat. The minute I saw the result post op I new it had not worked. I'm not sure I can start the procees all over again with another consultant. I am going back to see her in 4 weeks, and have to wear the vest all that time, as she is hoping I may just be swollen. Nightmare.

Give it time...it can take a long time for swelling to go down.  however, if gland is there, please please do not let her operate on you but seek another surgeon.  Alex Karidis, the one i used, is very highly recommended.

I would never have anything done to my body that wasn't done by an absolute professional with a tonne of experience. For me the money matters little and the results are what count. Lipo only for gyne is a joke i cant believe these surgeons can give out such a poor service without anyone monitoring them.

I had gyne treatment on the NHS in 2009. To save applying for funding they did a minor job of what they thought would work. Part excision and lypo. My main issue was my protruding areola. Whatever they did didn't tackle my problem whatsoever. I then tried on the NHS again with no success, budget cuts etc.

I am pleased tbh and have just undergone surgery on June 10th (2 days ago) privately. I did my homework and saw four different surgeons in London/Nottingham. I decided to go with a guy I trusted who knew exactly what I wanted. Very early days at the mo and tbh am shitting it about what the outcome will be like! I've always had oversized puffy areola so think maybe it's a little optimistic to think they'll lie completely flat. I can see a massive difference with the whole chest area though too early re the nips! Fingers crossed though.

If I were you I'd avoid surgery with the same consultant like avoiding the plague. I cut corners once by using the NHS and ended up with two scars (luckily healed very well) and pain of one op for nothing. The last thing you need right now is to have another op fail and sounds like she isn't experienced and you could end up needing it again! I've had to do it twice (hopefully last time) so I can speak from your point of view of being burnt already. Seek out a gyne specialist and don't cut corners with this!!
