mate..dun u think 2 weeks is way ttoo early to judge..
ne huu

The right side did have a larger mass removed. Is that the reason for the indent on flexing?  -- possible as more gland was removed from one side..and hence the deformity.. it may even out as time goes..

Would building up my chest (mine is normally more muscular) hurt or help with this?-- once u bak to gym.. build ur chest..and i hope positive it will get better
Is this correctable? - yeh many guys on this board have gone thru corrective surgeries..it is correctable..but I doubt u gonna need it..

give it sum time to heal.. its too early at this stage.. it hasnt settled down yet.. i m sure everyday u will see a progress..the key is patience :)

stop worrying too much.. its time to enjoy.. and last thing..don't miss on sleeps mate..they are precious:))..cheers

These pictures are at 2 weeks. Excision and Lipo bilateral. As you can see some are relaxed and some flexed. Relaxed not so bad, but flexed I see all kinds of problems. Crater Deformity, Keloiding, Bad animation, uneven contour. I am trying to be optimistic and not judge the doctors work to early but how can I not. My intuition tells me that this will not be corrected with time and healing. I worry if it can be corrected at all as I am a fairly lean person.

In fairness to the doc I will not say who it is just yet because it's only 2 weeks. However I can share that he is considered a leading doc in this surgery but does not participate on these boards. I am trying to be and level headed and fair to all parties.

Few Questions...
The right side did have a larger mass removed. Is that the reason for the indent on flexing? How does the body fill the hole?
Will this fill out with time some how? My Dr. said it would but I am doubtful.
Is this a normal thing when flexing at the 2 week mark?
Would building up my chest (mine is normally more muscular) hurt or help with this?
Is this correctable?

I so wish I had went to Dr. Bermant or Dr. Jacobs. I went to a local guy who was suppose to be "one of the best" in the country. I always had such a nice chest except for the fact of the Gyne that i had developed in the past 3-4 years. I was always lean and in shape with a nice chest. I pray that I am being impatient and am totally wrong but I feel this is false optimism. My feeling is as the swelling goes down it may get even worse. GOD help me! 7K later and its worse then I started with. This is making me feel ill and I can't sleep just thinking about it.

Thoughts? Professional or otherwise.

2 weeks is early with some surgery. Being patient and waiting to see how tissues evolve is typically the first step.  I prefer techniques that look good at the end of surgery. I plan and execute my surgical sculpture to have the appearance I want in the operating room, not waiting to see how the tissues develop. This requires a commitment to minimal brusing and swelling and after surgery care such that peak swelling occurs in the operating room. After Gynecomastia Surgery Tissues Evolve. However, in my opinion it is better to start out with a contour I am happy with and then see improvement with the healing process.

How tissues move after surgery is critical for a sculpture that people are living with and enjoying life. It is much harder to sculpt tissues that look good both relaxed and flexed. Unfortunately, most doctors document only the relaxed condition. That is why I evolved over the many years my Standard After Gynecomastia Surgery pictures to challenge myself to a more demanding result and document the problem and track as complete a picture as I could. Standard After Gynecomastia Video is even more revealing, but this is difficult technology for a doctor to master and takes a good deal of time to process it for web consumption / patient education.  Being aware of the power of such documentation and picking a surgeon demonstrating skills beyond still pictures then becomes an option for someone yet to have surgery or a revision.

Your limited views do not tell the entire picture. Yes, the flexing photos do reveal issues of contour. They may yet improve over time. It can take 6 months or longer to see such changes.

Hope this helps,

Dr Bermant,

Thank you for taking the time to address my concerns. I think for any experienced doctor the trick is to keep engaged and challenged in ones work. This can be difficult when doing the same thing over and over. Complacency is the threat and not so much skill. You obviously don't just ride the success of previous work but rather take on every new one as a challange. I so commend you on your commitment.

I can only imagine that my doc with all the cases he does just might not have his head in the game anymore. It's seems such a rookie mistake to make for someone with decades of specializing in this particular field. Quite frankly it's just no acceptable. I was a rather straight forward case. In shape, pure gyne and in good physical health.

In your opinion doc do you think time and natural body healing could possibly fill the gap on my right side (have you ever seen this happen) or in your experience not likely? Also how will working out my chest effect this contour/gap, better or worse?

Thank you for your kind words. Yes, I have a passion about my art and sculpture.

Time heals some issues. We are glad to help patients explore their specific concerns and questions during a consultation or a Preliminary Remote Discussion. If interested, Jane is my office manager.  She can normally be reached at our office by phone Monday - Friday 9-5 Eastern Time at (804) 748-7737.

Hope this helps,

Coming up on 3 weeks... Not much change except my chest feels like it's on fire. Is it safe to assume this is normal and just the nerves firing back up from the Lipo? It's pretty damn bad and only goes away if I am not wearing a shirt of any kind. How long does it usually take to go away? Anyone else have this?

Hypersensitivity is a common symptom of recovering nerves. How long it is present and how painful depends on the degree of injury and many other factors. Some techniques damage tissue to a much greater extent and recovery can be more uncomfortable and longer. For my patients it does not last long, few even comment about it.

Hope this helps,

Well now I'm officially scared. I just passed the 3 week mark and my chest is still on fire. I would have thought it would have started to calm down some by now. I am worrrying if the lipo caused permamnant nerve damage. I can't image a life with this pain. It's a 7 sometimes 8 out of 10 burning pain sensation. Forget about wearing a compression garment. Anyone else ever have this?

Dr. Bermant do you usually give a small amount of Lipo with your surgeries with people of my body type? Im 170lbs 5'11" 11% as you can see from my pics not much body fat.

Liposuction of the Male Chest and or Micro Liposuction are an essential part of my Dynamic Technique. When there is no global body fat component, I will skip the liposuction and go straight to the refining microliposuction. Other than in surface sculpture alone such as in scar revision or Anatomic Male Big Nipple Reduction, I find some form of liposuction critical for fine tuning my sculpture.

Hope this helps,

I had intense burning at several of the spots where they entered for the Lipo. Burned terribly when I laid down. It would wake me up at night if I rolled over onto those spots. I'm now about 6 weeks out and it has calmed down greatly. Hang in there.

Here is my results after 6 months. As I knew from the very beginning after surgery I was in deep trouble. The Dr. really screwed me up. I now wonder if he actually took muscle. When I went back to talk to the Dr. about this he became hyper defensive and told me there was nothing wrong, this was normal, and that I am completely out of line to for being upset. He even went as far as to say "I never wanted the surgery and should have not gotten it". I couldn't believe the nerve of this Dr. to say that to me. I wanted the surgery what I didn't want was for you to leave me with dents and possibly rip-out healthy muscle. I can't believe this happened to me. I am gonna try to see Dr. Bermant but I worry if it will at all be possible now that he is retiring. Now I am possibly stuck with more pain and a worse looking chest with a defensive and totally unprofessional Dr.. Not sure if this whole situation could have gone more wrong for me  :(

These photo's are what it looks like when lightly flexed.

Sorry to hear about the longer term outcome. Options depend on many factors.

Scar adhesion really are a dynamic issue. That is why my Standard Pictures and even better Standard Videos mentioned earlier in this thread are so important in a critical evaluation of problems and solutions. Limited views shown by some surgeons only tell part of the story. If men lived their lives with arms down muscles relaxed looking from the front and sides and front obliques, that would be one thing. However, my patients would rather be comfortable not thinking about their chest as they swim, play sports, bodybuilding, and other activities with their shirts off. I am particularly suspicious when what views are included on a web site change from patient to patient. Videos are much more demanding revealing deformity seen in every day life. Beyond just before and after pictures, is the path a patient had to take getting there.

We look forward to helping you explore your concerns and options.

Hope this helps,

Michael Bermant, M.D.

Thank you Dr. Bermant. I called your office today and I am trying to get an MRI and a Operational Report ASAP. Hopefully something can be done. If at minimum I am going to hold this Dr. accountable for the damage he caused to me and a few others I found out about. There is a clear problem with this Dr. and his ethics.

Like Dr. Bermant stated... It's imperative your Dr. has a clear strategy of how it will look under animation, relaxed, flexed and arms on all positions. Unfortunately for me my Dr. played along a story of doing him doing 200 surgeries a year, body building specialist, and The Best Dr. for this kind of surgery, blah blah blah. It turns out I find out later although Board Certified he has malpractice against him and is banned from some sites.. The rest of the internet hype about him is just that...marketing.

Once he saw what he did to me he just wanted me to go away and not acknowledge the results and actually blame me! Well I can't just walk away from what he did. I am stuck to deal with it.

If anything I will try to share my story with anyone who wants to know about my experience and maybe it will save them from the mess I now find myself in.

...and thanks again Dr. Bermant for even taking the time to respond here. I know you are already pretty solidly booked up until you retire yet you still come on here and try to help us out. I think that speaks volumes about your personal and professional care.

Thank you for your kind words.

Dr. Bermant,

I am scheduled to get an MRI next week of my chest. Would this be the proper/best test do determine what exactly was done to the chest muscle and underlying structures? I see there are several different technologies all with pro's and con's, eg.  MRI. CT Scan, Ultrasound. Which would be most useful to you and determining any damage that was done? Thank you

Hi Rocky,

I just hit 2 months post-op with Dr. Fielding in Toronto, and I'm sad to report that the left side of my chest looks very similar to yours in your pics (nipple seems to pull upwards only when flexing, everything looks fine when i'm not flexing).

I can still feel scar tissue forming etc. so I am holding out hope that the current state of my chest will improve; however, I'm not overly optimistic, as there is definitely a major chunk missing when I poke around the area.

I won't be able to get back to Dr. Fielding's office for another two months and I'm curious about what I should do in the meantime. I called his office to ask what to do in my situation and his assistant told me it was a minor case of temporary adhesion of the nipple and that massaging will do the trick. I've been doing it for about a month but am a little skeptical to continue, especially given how quickly my concern was dismissed as a minor/temporary issue.

Did you find that massaging helped or hindered the situation? Is there anything you can recommend to minimize the tendency of the nipple to pull up when flexing, or is it purely a waiting game?
