endocrinologist consultation

hi, I have the same condition(gynecomasta) im planning to have it surgically removed but should I consult a endocrinologist first before undergoing surgery? does anyone here consulted endocrinologist? what are they're findings regarding your condition? do they advise surgery? I would your response.

A lot of gyne is idiopathic.  In some cases a cause can be determined.
An trip to an endo wouldn't hurt for sure. One of the causes can be the conversion of testosterone to estradiol. By not doing a blood panel to include estradiol, a lot of those smart doctors read this as low T and needing exogenous testosterone as the solution when in fact this can be self defeating and result in even higher estradiol levels.  I've been through this cycle and discovered to late that the answer wasn't more testosterone but interrupting the conversion with an off label use of Anastrozole,  a woman's anti cancer steroid when estrogen sensitive tumors are discovered.
In my case not only did I have gyne but started developing fat deposits more typical of a woman. That's what started me researching other causes of gyne and ran across what is called the aromatase cycle in men.
If it were me and were I was at when this started not only would I've researched causes of gyne but expanded it to include causes of breast enlargement in men to include steroid forums where I learned about my problem and preferred solution.
Good luck. Having more knowledge is never a bad thing and at the end of the day, you are your biggest and only advocate.

If your gynecomastia dates from early puberty and has not changed in a couple of years then going to an Endocrinologist would probably cost money that you do not really need to spend.  
If your gynecomastia was brought on by a source that is clearly understood, The condition has been taken care of, and again: Not changed in a couple of years;  The Endocrinologist is probably not a needed expense. 
But:
If the condition developed later, the cause is not known, and there is recent change, then the Endocrinologist is a really good idea.

This is a very good question and is one that is asked often.  Your plastic surgeon will advise you if it is needed.  I refer to a endocrinologist and hormone testing if I do not have a clear cut cause for the gynecomastia like adolescent, steroid-induced, ect. Good luck
