I know how you feel mate, took a trip to London on my own to see Karidis on Friday without telling anyone and it was the longest most lonely day of my life! They said I had to have someone there for me after i've had the op so worked up the courage to tell my brother. Best thing I've done, he laughed and funnily enough knew all about it. He's a gym freak and said it's common in bodybuilders that take steroids and told me a couple people i know that have developed it. Apart from the fact he now calls me dog breasts every time he calls me its good to finally have told someone. As for my mum, i'll tell her after i've had the op cause i know she'll just worry!

Finally finished talking to my mum! Have told her everything, she says she can't believe I've done this all myself and is "proud" that i had the guts to just to London on my own and keep all this quiet for years.

We've come to an agreement in the end, she is coming with me to Spain! Got a cover story in place already, hopefully everything goes to plan. Found someone to countersign my passport, so I just gotta go to London again tomorow, its a shame, but not really got much choice.

At least now everything is back in order and it's good to finally have told someone. Only downside is I now have to find another £120 for another flight and £100 for taxi to the airport! damn it!

Passport is now sorted.

I now have a serious problem with my mum, she is convinced something will go wrong and be stuck in Spain or that Benito is a bodge-it merchant and everythings going to go wrong. She's going on and out about getting it done in the UK, despite the fact I think Dr Benito is the best in this field and I've seen the most consistant results from him!

Anyone had the same issues after telling their parent(s)? Not really sure what to say to stop her worrying so damn much.

Mums worry mate - that's what they're best at! She's suddenly realised that someone's gonna take a knife to her son and her protection instinct is kicking in. You'll never stop her worrying completely unless she was the one doing the surgery (and then you'd be the one worrying!)
I don't know how computer literate she is, but perhaps sitting her down and letting her go through the posts on this board either on her own or with you there to answer the questions as she thinks about them might be an idea? As she reads others' thoughts and experiences she's bound to wonder if you feel the same way so being there with her would be good I think.
One thing she will find is that there are many many positive comments about Dr Benito and that you'd never call him a bodge-it merchant. That should put her mind at rest hopefully.

I agree with wheeee. Let your Mom read the forum. She will soon see how much it affects you and how much your life is impared by the curse. She obviously cares and worries about you. This forum is such a good source of info that you should use it to help her calm her own worries and it will help you when it is over and you need care and understanding.

I've shown her the main gynecomastia.org pages and also let her read boy8181's surgery thread, think I'll have to let her read some more threads as well, she can't/won't stop me going, but I don't like seeing her more worried than she needs to be for a minor surgery. That's one of the reasons I didn't want to tell her as it just makes things a bit more complicated. I'll show her some more threads and see how it goes from there..

How much did people here pay for flights?

Looking at £278 for 2 tickets with no luggage... seems really expensive :( is that about right? and any ideas how much I can take on the plane itself or do I NEED a hold luggage? which costs £12 a bag. I guess I can just add one bag for myself and my mum.. we don't need to take too much stuff surely?

Also struggling to send the deposit over via internet banking! Any one manage to do it with HSBC or am I better off calling the bank ?

I am slowly begining to realise how useless I am with all this stuff! never been on holiday by myself so haven't a clue about any of it!

Cheers Petey, seems easyjet is still the cheapest at £278 for 2 adults with 1 hold luggage. Ah well, it's only money... :(

Hello mate, don't always assume that Easyjet are the cheapest. Sometimes if their flights are busy then it can work out more expensive than going with BA or Iberia.

I've just had a quick look on the BA site (www.ba.com) and without knowing the exact dates you want to fly I've found return for £90 per person. Have a look, maybe that will work out better for you. And you don't have to mess about paying extra for luggage as they give you a 20kg allowance each if your Mum ends up buying loads of stuff to bring back!

Hope that helps.

I don't understand why your flights are £120 and mine are £280 :( everything is costing so much. £50 in public transport for the consultation,  Just paid £120 to get a passport, now £300 for flights, another potential £40 just to send the deposit?! not to mention the £100 for taxi to airport. Hope it's worth it!

To make things worse, my mum is now not talking to me! and has made herself ill from "worrying about surgery in Spain".

Shouldn't have to deal with all this on top of the surgery itself. I can barely sleep at the moment, just can't wait to get this all over and done with and hopefully get on with my life!!!

--- UPDATED ---

Hmmm just done some playing on the EasyJet site....

first thing I note is the 17:05 flight from Barcelona to Gatwick has gone UP in price!

Secondly... if I come back on the Friday at 17:05 it will cost £105 per person. If I come back on the Saturday at 16:40 it's only £42 per person. Maybe it's worth getting a cheap hotel for the Friday night?

So

3-5th will cost £305
3-6th will cost £180

Saves £120 but depends how much a hotel would cost for a night and the extra hassle if it's really worth it.

Try a different airport for flying back to, Manchester for example £58.92 for 2 people with bmibaby at 17.40 5th december...then im sure you'll get a cheap bus from there to wherever you live with megabus or that

Ok calmed down a bit now haha things have smoothed over quite nicely now.

My passport arrived already so thats not a worry any more. My mum has finally spoken to me after 3 days of ignoring me, she is not coming to Spain with me now, but is now happy for me to go and is now very supportive of everything. It's a mutual agreement for me to go alone. So flights have now been booked (Cost me £170 but it's got to be done)

So, all sorted now, just need to withdraw £700 cash and write a cheque for the remaining £2000 and book a taxi to drive me to the airport.

Thanks very much for all the advice and support on here, I know I've gone a bit useless lately not being able to sort anything, but now I've sorted things out with my mum I feel a lot better about everything knowing she is now on my side :)
