Hi everyone!

well... I am post surgery!  Very exciting.

I was away on holiday in New York all last week and got back on Thursday morning to find a letter from Charing Cross Hospital offering me a surgery date of 15th January.  This only gave me 24 hours or so to mentally prepare myself, but I decided to go ahead with it and was at hospital for 7.30am on Friday morning.

I was given my pre assessment and then my surgeon, a fantastic lady called Miss Lysakova who is a lipo specialist, I believe.  I had lipo only performed.  I am not expecting perfect results as I know gland will remain, but looking down at my chest even now I am confident that this operation will make a considerable difference to my profile and to my confidence.  If I need to have a private operation to achieve perfection later on, then I will be prepared to do so.  Miss Lysakova re-assured me before the operation though that if I was not satisfied with the results, they would do everything to achieve perfection for me.  She inspired a lot of confidence.

The after care was excellent.  I spoke to Miss Lysakova when I was still very drowsy from the general anaesthetic, but she visited me first thing Saturday morning to check on me (she was pleased) and to discuss the operation.  She took roughly 2 pints of fat from each side.  Should definitely make a big difference!

The nurses were all excellent.  I was monitored through the afternoon and overnight then released with my painkillers this morning.  I feel great and have even walked to M&S to pick up some food!  The dressings cover my whole chest, so it's difficult to see anything really, and I have an abdominal compression bandage with holes cut in for my arms.  I am ordering a proper compression vest tonight to replace it.

I have an appointment on Friday to have my dressings removed then an appointment with Miss Lysakova in 6 weeks time to assess the results.

Here I am, 3 days post op after lipo only.  Fingers crossed I remain as flat as this...

I'm not in any pain at all really.  Only the crappy compression thing is getting on my nerves cutting into my under arms.  Can't wait for the proper compression vest to arrive.

Why did they perform lipo only if they agreed on gland removal too? Or did you choose this way londonland?

Hi BullsEye.

To be honest, I don't think there was much communication between surgeons since my consultation, so when the surgeon came to speak to me on the day, all she really knew was that I didn't want the full breast reduction that NHS still seem to offer, which would cut away skin etc and leave huge scars.  She had never performed gland excision via a small cut in the nipple, but had performed extensive lipo so I decided to have done what her strength was rather than put myself at risk of a botched operation.

This way, although the result might not be 100% perfect, I knew it would make a difference, and I can again look at having glad excision when I can afford it privately...

It will be interesting to speak to her again at my check up after 6 weeks.  She made a point of assuring me before my surgery that the NHS were serious about the problem and that they would fix this for me, no matter how long it took... so I will definitely discuss in detail with her the idea of gland excision via a cut in the nipple.  Perhaps they would refer me to a specialist... we'll see.

London lad your chest looks great now and hopefully the gland wont show much when you heal. the worst case scenario would be that the gland would be more visible as the fat that was making it look flat-ish was removed by lipo. but hey mate atleast u had gyno treatment on the nhs. ;D

Thanks wannabemassive.  The brusing is even more spectacular now!  Will be funny to see when the dressings come off - my chest is completely purple/red at the bottom and bright yellow at the top!  I'm interested to see what colours it is in between where it's covered by dressings.  Haha.

It's not painful at all though.  I thought it would be much more so.  Can get my arms right up above my head.  It feels a bit tender but that's it. Only a couple of friends know I've had an operation, and I was back at work as normal on Monday.  No one has noticed that I'm moving about differently or anything.  I've only been aware of it being a bit sore when friends have hugged me too hard.

I think I've swollen up a bit.  It's hard to tell, especially when you're so paranoid about your chest in the first place... but I think I look a bit bigger now than in the photos.  Only time will tell how good the final results will be.

It will swell up, give it time and get your fluids in.

Well, I had my dressings removed yesterday morning and it was nice to get re-acquainted with my chest after not having seen my nipples for a week!  lol.

I would say that I'm certainly not flat by any stretch of the imagination, but that's to be expected with no gland excision.  But my chest is much much smaller than it was before and doesn't feel so massively out of proportion or as pointy as it was before.  Already, I am much happier in t shirts and so on and it's already making a difference to my confidence.

I definitely want to get the gland removed though and get completely flat.  Hopefully the NHS will be able to do this, but if not I will probably go to Beaucare for it at some point over the next 12 months when I get a bonus at work.

Interesting, the nurse who removed my dressings asked where I got the compression vest from (http://www.macom-medical.com/products-84-male_compression_vest.html) as she thought it was really good and said that she has lots of lads coming through who have had liposuction for gynecomastia on the NHS.  Several a week, she said.  So perhaps it's not as rare as we think.  It's just a shame that it seems entirely dependent on where you live as to whether you get treated or not.

My chest feels much more tender since the dressings came off which is weird.  I think it's just because the dressings felt like a bit of extra protection.  I'm a bit swollen and also there's lots of very hard areas under the skin which I assume is all scar tissue?  Behind both nipples is very hard and also in lots of other places around my chest.  It's too tender to contemplate massaging it at the moment.  Perhaps in another week or so.  I was out with a friend for dinner last night and we went to a bar for a drink afterwards.  It was a bit crowded in one area and I got elbowed right in the left nipple!  It was SO sore!

Anyway, all is going well and I'm feeling upbeat.  Really keen to see if I get flatter as the swelling goes down.  Roll on the next 5 weeks!

I'll do some more photos again in a couple of days.

im two weeks post glandular excision on wednesday. Really pleased with results, although im swollen on my right side. feels quite hard underneath. My left side is unbelievably perfect though! just hope the right follows suit. hope the NHS will do it for you. I was shocked too at how many people the nurses had seen who had had gyne surgery!
