Well here goes.
Airport to hotel then it’s the NEXT DAY….
I got to the clinic for 9 am and was shown to my room. At 10 am Dr.Baranski and Antony (he is also a doctor) who is Dr.Baranski’s right hand man and interpreter came to see me. They examined my chest and then Antony had a discussion with me about their findings and the procedure. Dr.Baranski then left and Antony and myself carried on talking etc.
Then a nurse came in and inserted a little plastic device with a needle into my left arm and taped it up.
11 am and the anaesthetist came to see me and asked me questions and examined me by listening to my heart and lungs and then took my blood pressure. Everything was ok so he filled his form in and went.
At noon a nurse came in with a hospital gown and trousers and some tight stockings for anti thrombosis.
I changed into the garments and waited. At 1 pm a nurse took me through to the operating theatre. I was put onto the operating table which was in the shape of a cross, I had my arms strapped down and was given an injection and put on a drip. I was told what they were but have now forgotten. Then I was asked a couple of questions and remember answering one of them but not the next, I must have been asleep by then.
When I had woken up from the op I was told that they had put drains in as they had to take a lot out and not to worry. I also had my compression vest on.
I was feeling very cold, I don’t know why as it was 32c outside. I was shivering so they put blankets on me and put me in the recovery room for a couple of hours. A nurse was there to keep and eye on me, she asked me every so often if I was ok etc. I felt very groggy for a while but had a BIG SMILE
because I had it done!!
I was eventually taken back to my room and just drifted in and out of sleep. A nurse came in every so often and checked on me.
I woke up next day and my chest felt sore but no pain. I was given some antibiotics and told to take one in the morning and one at night and then was given an anti thrombosis injection. Dr.Baranski came in to check on me and said that I must walk around a bit.
I couldn’t go out of the clinic because I had drains on so walked around the room for ten minutes every hour. Antony came in later on in the morning to see how I was getting on. The nurse changed the drains when they got full. I just watched television and walked around the room that day.
The next day I was woken with another anti thrombosis shot and breakfast. Then Antony and Dr.Baranski came in to see me and take out the drains. This was the worst thing of all. I was standing up and took off my compression vest then Dr.Baranski got a scalpel blade and cut some of the plaster off around the tubes and gently pulled them out. It felt very odd having them pulled out, numb pain is how I would describe it. They told me not to shower for 4 hours as it would take that long for the tube openings to seal. They were inserted in the corner of the areola.
I told them that I was going home later that day and that the taxi would pick me up at 7 pm. They transferred me to a room upstairs until then.
I was visited by Antony who gave me a form with all the surgery info on and told to keep it safe as I would need to bring it back if I had any problems etc.
Then later on the taxi picked me up and took me to the airport and then back to England and home. I drove 52 miles home from the airport with no problems at all. I did take it steady though!
I still feel sore in the chest area but have no pain. My left side is more swollen than the right, I did ask Antony and he said it is due to the swelling and it will go down.
I did notice that my right drain was filling up a lot more than my left. My left one was changed twice whilst my right one 4 times. I suppose there is a lot of fluid and blood stuck in there.
Anyway, I just have to wait for the healing to see the results. I’m happy with it so far.
I’m gasping for a ciggie but I am not having one!!
On the whole….
Docs and nurses are nice and friendly and tell you everything they are about to do like what the injection is for etc.
Nice place, very clean and modern.
They made me a lovely vegetarian dish for dinner when there was nothing on the menu I liked. I found the menu was a bit of a struggle because it was in Polish and German. Antony helped me out with the translation but then said that he would sort out something veggie.
I hope I made sense.
I will keep you informed on my progress.
