Surgery is done!!!

Will post pics of me in bandages this weekend but will have to wait one week before I can post my post op pics.

Here goes:

I got to the hospital at 6:10 a.m..  The surgery admitting area had maybe 10 people of both men and women.   All sorts of people with different ailments are there so it's not a room full of guys with gyne.  Dr. Fielding is not the only surgeon working.  When I finished giving my information, I went to the surgery waiting area check-in and was given a bag to put my personal belongings into (including clothes) and two hospital gowns for front and back.

I changed and sat for maybe 15 minutes when my name was called.  The nurse took my pressure, temperature and asked me a bunch of questions (are you allergic to anything? Have you been sick in the last 10 days?...that sort of stuff).  That took about 10 minutes and I had to go back to the waiting room.  The nurse told me I was Dr. Fielding's first patient for the day and I would only have to wait for about an hour.

My name was called again at around 8:00 and I followed the nurse down to the operating room.  No wheelchair or rolling bed, just walked right over to the room.  I had to wait outside and another nurse came out and asked me the same set of questions the first nurse asked me.  I saw Dr. Fielding and he looked chipper so I said to myself, "Thank God he's in a good mood."

He said hello and he seems very popular there because most of the staff was saying hello to him. Anyways, the nurse asked me to come into the operating room.  Up to this point, I wasn't really nervous.  I had a few nerves going but I felt more nervous giving a speech to my fellow classmates in highschool.  There were 5 people in the room ready to assist Dr. Fielding in some manner.  They prepped me. Dr. Fielding came in, took a few pics of my chest and took a marker and made his marks.  The anesthesiologist pricked my hand with a needle and told me I will be falling asleep soon.  She asked me a few personal questions (to get my mind off of what was happening to me) and I was out like a light.

So my surgery started at around  8:05 and I woke up at 9:45 in the recovery room.  It felt like I was out for 3 minutes.  It was amazing.  I woke up and realized I was done and guys, you should have seen the f-u-c-k-i-n-g smile on my face.  The nurse asked me why the grin and I said, I'm just glad it's over.  She thought I was referring to the surgery but I was actually referring to my gyne.

Anyhow, I layed there for around an hour and I started to get my bearings. I wasn't sick at all.  The only discomfort was a sore throat.  My chest didn't even hurt.  I was hungry and I wanted to eat.  They won't feed you there.  The most they'll offer you is a package of biscuits and a beverage.  They made a call to my friend to come get me and by 1:00 p.m. I was out of there.  My friend took longer then expected to pick me up but I could have left at 12:00.  They have to  physically see the person taking you home or they won't let you leave.  By the by, they prescibed me Percoset.

Now, I don't recommend what I'm about to add but I did it anyways.  I thought I would be really loopy from the surgery and my friend would drive me to my parents house and I would rest there for a while before driving home but I didn't do that.  I drove home as soon as he dropped me off (from Scarborough to Brampton it was a 35 minute drive).  Please, I know I sound like a hypocrite but I don't recommend planning your surgery like this.  I know how I was feeling.  I'm a responsible adult and if I thought driving home would put me or anyone else at risk, I wouldn't have done so.  I felt fine as if I was at the tailend of a minor beer buzz.  I got my prescription filled and went through the Wendy's drive thru.

I'm home right now typing my story and I'm feeling a minor bit of pain so I'm going to go lay down soon and maybe pop a pill.  I can see a bit of swelling forming where the bandages end but thanks to this site, I know it's normal.

All in all, the surgery part was very simple.  I will revise this if I think of anything else later but for now, I'm going to go get some rest.

Very bruised and in a lot of pain this morning.  Actually, last night was very uncomfortable.  I took one Percocet at 7 last night and it had no effect on me.  I took another one at 9 and I felt a little hazy.  It did kill at least 50% of the pain.  I like to sleep on my sides but as most of you know, you can't do that after surgery so my back was in so much pain.  I propped up some pillows under my legs so my back would straighten out and it semi-worked.  I was in and out for most of the night.

There is one huge bruise above where the bandages end.  It looks purple and red (very disgusting).  I'm sitting in my office at home because I need to give my back a rest but I feel as if I'll be going back to bed right after this post.  When I lean forward to get up from bed or a chair, that's when it really hurts.  Still happy so far that it's done and I know I have a few more days of this pain, but it's worth it so far.  I just can't wait to see the final product.  Bambu, I'm still looking at your pics for inspiration.

Will post later if inspired or in less pain.

Congratulations Blitz....!!!!  :)
You're now on the road to recovery...
Keep us updated on your progress, this is very informative for us, "soon to be operated on by Fielding" folks.

I wonder why some people have barely no bruising, and others get alot of bruising?
I have often wondered this...
Looking forward to your updates Blitz, and get well soon brother!!  ;)

Yeah, that's when I experienced the majority of my discomfort also. Sitting up from a horizontal position is a biatch huh! The pain didn't last long tho. Five to ten seconds and it was gone....  ;)

Once again.... Congrats!  ;D

Congrats Blitz!  Great to hear that the whole experience went well!

I have a question regarding tubes (I don't know if he put any in you, post-op) but say I were to have my op done in Toronto (I'm from Ottawa) and had to have tubes put in after, would it be okay for me to go to my regular family doctor to have them removed or would Fielding want me to stay in T.O. until he does it?

Also, Blitzz do you think you would be okay to return to regular activities in a couple of days?

Most likely it would depend on the extent of the trauma to the body. Probably has alot to do with how much Lipo work is required. Just a guess.... ;)

Achilles,

When I asked Dr. Fielding about tubes, he said it's very rear that he puts tubes in his patients.  You would have to ask him about your question.

As far as bruising goes, I agree with Bambu; the more lipo you have done, the more bruising.  My boobs were cup shaped so I know I had a lot of fat.

If by regular activities you mean work, I will be going back to work on Monday.  I won't be back in the gym for at least a few weeks and that maybe just for light cardio.  I probably won't lift weights for another month (from what I gathered from this site).  I will take it slow.  As of now, I have trouble getting in and out of bed, moving my arms, etc.  It feels like I was hit by a truck at times but I'm only 1 day post op and I do feel better then what I did last night.  It's Thursday so I'm hoping the next 3 days will bring me some relief.  My post op appointment with Dr. Fielding is on Tuesday.  I imagine he'll be removing the bandages at that time and I'll be able to see the results.

2 days post op:

Feeling a lot better today.  I haven't had a bowel movement since Tuesday night and this morning I found it hard to urinate.  I know it's because of the Percocet they prescribed me so I'm not going to take it for the day and hopefully for the duration of my healing.  The pain in my chest has subsided a lot overnight so I don't think I'll be needing it.

I've just been laying around for the last 2 days watching a lot of golf.  Go Tiger go!!!

I have been constipated (although I haven't been eating all that much) but have had no problem urinating for the last 24 hours. In fact I am quite thirsty all the time and going like a race horse :D.

My appetite was fine after surgery.  I still ate like a horse.

What medication did they prescribe to you dps?

I've been on Percocet and I stopped taking it.  I went to the washroom and everything seems to be back to normal.

The pain in my chest is almost gone but now the itchiness has kicked in and it itches like hell.  I want to rip the bandages off but won't.

Some kind of percocet equivalent. 30 tablets, so far I have used 4, none today. Like I said, I feel a lot more mobile, at times I get a throbbing pain in the areola region but it goes away fast. Hopefully I can sleep without pills today so I can have a proper bowel movement!

I still feel kinda weak and cold at times, but i'm sure that's more in my head than anything. I want to get these bandages off so I can get a little more mobile, want to be out as much as possible!

Day 3 post op:

I took my bandages off today.  It itched like hell and I just had to look.  When I woke up this morning, the swelling had gone down and I actually felt like I had a sunken feeling.

Oh my God!!! My right side looked amazing.  I had that look of disbelief on my face with a smile that kept on flashing every 2 seconds.  The left side is more bruised and still swollen but I was happy with it as well.

I was able to take a shower.  I needed that.  I put everything back on (including the foam pads).  The pain is almost non-existent with some light shooting pain every once in a while on my left side (it doesn't really hurt).  I don't think I'll be taking anymore medication.
