Surgery story (6/12/13) with pictures

Hey everyone,

Starting this thread to describe my experience with the surgery.
I'd like to thank everyone who has posted their story and their pictures on here too because it's definitely a good resource for other guys going through the same thing.

Anyways, I had the surgery yesterday. I've had gynecomastia since I was about 12. My Pediatrician and my family doctor both told me that it would go away, but clearly it never did.

I am now 21 and finally decided to open up to my parents about it and they supported me and helped me pay for the surgery.

The surgery went well, it seemed to go by fast. The worst part for me was not being able to eat for 8 hours before.

I haven't been in much pain since the surgery. I do feel a bit swollen though and this compression vest is getting pretty itchy.

I still haven't seen the results yet, but I do get to shower tomorrow so I can check it out tomorrow.

This is 3rd day post op... Pain and swelling aren't too bad, the drains are pretty miserable though

Got my drains out today. Drains were definitely the worst part of my experience so far. I'm a little concerned with crater deformities, but I know it's way too early to know for sure. Here are some pictures of where I'm at so far...

A couple days and month since the op. Recovery went/is going smoothly. Felt comfortable to go to the gym yesterday. However, my nipples seem to be getting puffier again. Not to the extent of before, but definitely more than I'd like them to be. There does seem to be a significant amount of scar tissue, so hopefully that's the cause. The scarring the first couple of weeks did seem to be a bit worse than I'd thought it'd be. In most post op pictures I've seen it's just been a line scar, but mine is raised and much lighter than the rest of the nipple. It does seem to now be blending in with the rest of the nipple now though.

Just wondering if anybody had any input on nipples becoming puffy again, and what to expect? I was initially very flat. Also, has anybody had similar scarring and how did it end up?

I have been trying to either massage using bio oil or put on the silicon sheeting everyday for the past couple of weeks.

Looks like this thread may have died out.  Anyway, what you're describing sounds like early scar tissue formation behind each areola.  If your surgeon hasn't addressed this yet, he/she may want to inject a little steroid solution to "melt" the scar tissue.  That's usually what's happening when one is flat after the surgery but then develops puffiness in the nipple/areola area later.

Dr. Pope what do you feel is a adequate heal time before going in for injections?  That is the situation I am dealing with now.

I have injected patients within 4 to 6 weeks of surgery, in cases where initially they were flat after surgery then later developed a lump, consistent with scar tissue.
