My thoughts exactly! The days are slowly but surely starting to get colder...so, if I were to get the surgery say within a month, I would be set by springtime...maybe even by spring break!

Oh and I am currently attending Texas A&M...glad to see one of you Longhorns DOES have a heart! (Haha, just kidding!)

For those people who have gone through the entire process of the surgery and recovery, how long does it take to be fully comfortable with wearing tighter shirts, or no shirt at all (basically, the infamous question of recovery time.) Basically, how long did it take the bruising and some of the scaring to disappear or fade away?

Once you shed your compression vest, you will be able to wear tighter t shirts...

For me, the bruising/swelling subsided within 2 weeks. Scaring took a little longer. Was feeling good by the 3rd month mark...

That sounds great! I've gone through 5 different surgeries in my lifetime (two torn ACL's on BOTH knees!, a vasectomy, and a shredded rotator cuff) so the idea of surgery doesn't scare me. I've been put to sleep MANY of times! Although insurance wont cover that one, for the amount of happiness it (should) will bring me, it will be totally worth it.

Does it really feel like a gigantic weight is lifted off your shoulders??

hahaha...i love dj'in at foam parties. i get away with playing a set that i already mixed and just tell the mc when, and what, popular songs are coming on next so he/she can hype up the crowd more hyped. all i have to do is act like i'm busy 30 percent of the time.  so basically i get paid to just play a cd lol.

and to answer the question about when i felt ok to wear fitting tee shirts and take off my shirt......
about 5 weeks after the surgery i was pleased with how my chest was looking. i wouldnt even have a problem taking my shirt off in public at this point.  my case was severe and when the doc saw my chest 6 weeks after the surgery he said that it was looking good and that i still had some swelling that would go down over time.


now to the main topic of this thread....
my worst memory of gyne is probably the inconvienence.  having to wear the right shirts that hide it, never sitting with ur back to a chair (always sitting crouched over), flexing my chest while walkin down the stairs to reduce the jiggling lol, and not being able to go in a pool or beach and feel comfortable (thats the one that really made me want to go through wit surgery).

i've had people make fun of my chest (and it was from my close friends lol) but i never showed them that it phased me.  i think thats what made them not care to make anymore jokes about them.  one time i was with a girl and she was feeling on my chest and said "oh whats that...looks like we can get bras together."
eventhough it somewhat hurt me, i realized it wasnt something that i should isolate mysef over because it didnt stop her from being affectionate with me.

oh, and my response to her saying i should go bra shopping with her was, "yea we should...wont it be sad if i needed a bigger size than u."

At age 37 or so, I was lying in bed with my wife watching TV just about to fall asleep.  While channel surfing I came across a Discovery Health show about the condition, it featured Dr. Jacobs.

Have you ever seen the movie the miracle worker.  In the movie Hellen Keller (deaf, dumb, and blind) as a child, all in one moment realizes how to communicate, realize the world around her, and is able to live as a person.

That is what I felt like.  I am college educated, good job, wife, kids and totally stupid about G.  I had no idea it was a condition other people suffered from, or that there was a medical solution, or that it even had a name.

On the one hand I wasted 20+ years with it.  Grateful I finally saw it.  Got in shape and had surgery, at 40.

I second that. I hardly think about it nowadays. So much so that the last time it crossed my mind I thought of the money the op cost and what we could buy with that now and I found myself thinking "was it really that bad; bad enough to spend all that money?"

I had a surreal moment of remembering I felt terrible about it but not really being able to recall the emotion.

Then I came back here and read this thread! Yes it was worth the money, it was fracking horrible having gyne, every penny getting rid was worthwhile.

Never swimming, constantly worrying about clothes, roasting in the summer, worrying about people noticing, feeling shy at work, walking around hunched, wondering where the next comment was coming from.

I kind of feel like I should have conquered it mentally somehow, theres brave people who live with serious deformities and have no hope of a simple surgery correcting it, but I just never could.

My worst gyno memory was when i was getting my surgery done on my left chest two days ago to fix the gyno and they accidently didnt close off all blood vessels after surgery. Which means at one in the morning at hospital i noticed my left chest was extremely sore and blood was leaking under my chest and he had to cut it open with scissors to leak the blood from my chest ( while i was awake ) and i had to get the operation done again an hour later at 2 in the morning  .
My right chest is looking good but my left one is extremely sore but it should be worth it  .

I had a pretty humiliating experience not too long ago when I was at a comedy show in NYC.  It was a very intimate event and I was sitting in the front row.  The performer was on the same level as us and could approach us pretty easily. 

Someones cell phone went off and the comedian wanted to know whose it was.  I didn't even have a phone with me at the time but for some reason she thought it was me so she had me stand up so she could frisk me. 

After she thoroughly examined me.  She said, "well, he doesn't have a cell phone...but hes got t*ts!"
