Newbies-Suggestion for getting best out from forum

Dear Newbies! 
By all means read and get advice from old posts but if you are looking for interactive conversation it is probably best to start a new topic.
We are a friendly lot and are genuinely here to help. 
I know posts get a "New" flag but observation over a number of years is that probably most ongoing members seem to recognise old post and do not engage quite so readily especially if a year or to old and already run to 3-4 pages. 
If the topic is that old and long and you can't find an appropriate answer it is certainly best to start a new thread. That way is more likely to get more replies and more promptly.
