So I recently went to see a well qualified PS regarding my gyne situation.  I have a big chest in relation to my body, however he tells me that I'm about average in comparison to other patients.  My chest is large in general and has fat over it. Not much puffiness. Anyway...

I asked him how flat he can make it.  He told me he doesn't know; there are no guarantees.  I explained that this is something that has been with me since childhood and affected my life and psych and I want to be sure its just right...

His responses was unsettling... He told me that if I obsess over it post op, HE is not the person to handle the procedure.  Also, I should go see another PS.  I wouldn't call my self obsessive, but this is a major decision I'm about to make and I felt as though he would be more assuring... His answers were very tentative and full of "maybes."

Maybe it was a reverse psychology tatic.  I don't know...  ???

I want to just pull the trigger and make the decision already, but he kind of tripped me up a bit.

What do you guys make of this?

There are no guarantees, man. Thats life. Don't try to get any PS to say it will be perfect. If one does, I'd run in the other direction. It's art and science. Not that simple. My PS told me upfornt. "We cant hit homeruns everytime, but we try" The concept is to improve your life. Maybe you'll need a revision a year later, who knows. But it takes a lot of months to even get a final result. You need an open mind. There is no fast, perfect result. Best of luck.
Surgery Date: April 9, 2008.
Surgeon: Dr. J C Fielding. (Toronto)
Result: Life is getting better with every day.

Get a second opinion.  If he's not confident he can help then take him at his word.  If he thinks you're "average" he might think you don't need any procedure at all and would be hesitant to operate on an "average" person.

I agree with the last post..  It almost seems that he thinks you are fine now and obsessing about your "proportionate" appearance. After the operation he probably assumes you would very likely be the same way about scarring etc.  I think you have to go into the operation knowing that your chest is never going to be natural again, there will allways be evidence of plastic surgery.  Sure the point is to make it as unnoticeable as possible but there is just no substitute for good genes.  I certainly have a massive improvement since my operation, but I do find myself obsessing about how things are healing.  Certainly if I had expected a chest like a CK model I would have been a pain in my PS's ass by now.

Just remember that not a PS' are really in touch with gyne surgery specifically either. So, make sure you're talking to the right people. Post where you're from, you may get a few good referrals.

Awesome post DCBR78!  ;)

"There are no guarantees"

Yeah, aint-it-the-truth...  Surgery is very much a gamble my friend! GRS is only a 'fix', not a 'cure'... In the vast majority of cases, that 'fix' will not be perfect. You have to have 'Realistic Expectations'. Most PS's will tell you that.

"The concept is to improve your life"

Exactly! As mentioned above, your chest will probably not be 'perfect', but hopefully, your life will be manageable with little-to-no stress/anxiety/paranoia related to Gynecomastia...

Impervious...  there is a condition called B.D.D. (Body Dysmorphic Disorder). BDD is a condition where the individual 'thinks' that their body is 'just-not-right'. An example is an anorexic female. The sufferer sees her self as being 'fat' but in reality, she isn't. It's a psychological issue rather than a physical issue. I'm not saying that you have BDD, but I'm sure that there are many guys who want their chests "just-right". This probably raises a 'red flag' in the PS's mind. 'Oh-oh, this guy is going to be a trouble maker'. Ya know what I'm say'n here dude? PS's don't need the hassle...

Think about it this way.... if you bend the frame on your car, oopps, sorry... your truck (cars don't have frames anymore...) and you get it straightened, do you really think that the body shop will be able to fix it to the point as if it was never bent in the first place? Of course not. Your truck will driveable, yes, but it wont be 'perfect' like-brand-new. Same theory applies to GRS. A PS can make it 'better' but most likely, cannot make it 'perfect' as if you never had Gynecomastia in the first place...

PS's are not Magicians/Wizards. They are mere mortals just like the rest of us. (Although some may beg to differ...  :P) PS's do not have a magic wand to wave over your chest and zap your m(o)(o)bs away...

If you're not comfortable or get a bad vibe from a surgeon don't use him, it' s as simple as that.

It's not that simple.. If you so and see any PS and tell them that you want a certain result or guarantee, you're gonna put them off. Look, we all want things to be perfect. But, if you approach any surgeon looking for them to offer a sure shot result, you aint gonna get it. Pressuring them to give you that result is not going to change the outcome. You might as well say if it isnt perfect you intend to sue them.. Think they'll do the surgery? There are PS surgeons that you will and wont mesh with.. But I can guarantee you that if you want hard answers on results, you arent gonna find a reputable PS to do it, what he told him is what they all will tell you. "They'll do their best"... It's that simple.

Thanks everyone.  I guess my only hesitation is paranoia about my chest looking worse then before i.e. scars, creasing, indented nipple etc.

In reality, you're all right, I can't expect perfection and I won't. I just dont want my chest to be worse than before with damage.  I'm in Jersey and have consulted with Dr. Baxt and Elliot  Jacobs

There is no other hesitation...

Based on my pictures, do you think its worth taking the gamble?

The PS is very reputable.

And yes, it bothers me to the point that it is ridiculous.

I do spend time in the mirror looking at my chest in all different directions.  Its a  f**cking joke already.  I shouldn't have to be that way... you know?

Again, i'm having trouble getting past the fact that I may damage my chest worse.

Dont really see any gyn bro.  You do have a large chest mainly composed of muscle from the looks of it.  The amount of fat that you have on your chest appears to be relative to the rest of your body.

One thing I do notice is that your upper pecs are noticably less developed than the lower portion - this is contributing the the "gyn-like" appearance on the side shot.

If I were you, I would hit incline presses hardcore in the gym as well as lower your body fat.  It also looks as though a topical fat burner containing yohimbine (i.e. yohimburn) would work good for you.  It targets estrogeneous fat stores such as those on the chest, and it actually works quite well (it DOES NOT get rid of gland - but i dont believe you have an abnormal amount anyways).  I have used it with good results as have many of my BB friends.

Following the above advice, you would see a very significant improvement within a matter of a few months.

Save your cash - I dont think the surgery will do much for you man.

That right there is reason enough to go and get the surgery done.

Keep in mind that a surgeon makes his money in the operating room. The office often costs more to function than it generates in fees.

If a surgeon tells you that he questions whether he can really do you any good, Believe him.

In this case, the surgeon suggested that the patient get a second opinion.

What the surgeon seems to be saying is that the patient is either obsessive or has unreasonable expectations regarding the surgical outcome. He seems to stop barely short of refusing outright to operate.

Wouldn't the world be so much a better place if everyone was that honest?

I wish the business were a little more honest. You'd hope hope that a doctor would always be trustworthy. But, turns out they are no different then the rest of the world. Like I said. Beware of the PS that says they can make it perfect.

i understand what your saying truly.. i feel the exact same but i am prepared to take the risks because i am sick of it i just want to be able to wear what ever i want and go outside the door without spending a half hour in front of the mirror analysing my chest to see if the clothes im wearing show the gyne.. so belive me i think all of us with gyne suffer from this aswell as other things.. but you have to look at the other side you might have a real good experience and gain everything you ever wanted.. but you have to allow possiable bruising or creasing but these in most cases are normal and you will have to give yourself time to recover..

just go with a differnt p.s im from ireland and im going to spain to have my op.. but your in america theirs no better place to have a gyne op theirs tons of docs who specialise in it.. some are on this board drop them a personal mesage to see what they think of your condition thats what i did and they were very supportive..

in my opinion thats defiently gyne it comes in differnt shapes and sizes i think you'l have to get the op to correct it
