Did you have to get blood work done before surgery?

My surgery is in a month, my surgeon wants me to get blood work done and send back to his office. On the paper that shows what he wants back, it has CBC/DIff/Platelets,  PT and PTT,  Chemistry (SMA),  UA...circled... what are these for? Is this a hormonal check or standard procedure?

I just had a finger stick hemoglobin 2 days prior.

Your tests are completely normal. All patients that I operate on are required (at minimum) to get a PT/PTT and CBC test. The tests make sure that your blood count is high enough for safe surgery and that your blood clots correctly. Any doctor who doesn't require these tests is not performing surgery with the utmost safety.
