Just a quick question. Will I need to see a doctor before a surgeon can do anything? I'm about to consult a surgeon but I really don't want to see my doctor.

Depends where you are. In Australia you'll likely need a referral from a GP with blood tests and ultrasounds. Seems most surgeons in USA don't have that requirement. Maybe call a surgeon's office and ask?

I'll be interested to see what the doctors weigh in on.

I can only speak from my personal experience.   Neither of the two doctors i saw needed anything from my doctor.  By choice I asked them to contact my doctor for the blood work  since I'd just had a physical 6 weeks before.

For most patients with long term stable gyne, there is no need for a referral from another doctor. You can consult with (hopefully) a gyne specialist surgeon directly.

Unfortunately, insurance very rarely covers this surgery -- so the usual requirement of  "see your general doc first and then get a referral to a specialist" does not exist.

Most likely, if in the US, you will not need to visit your general doctor. In some cases, a surgeon may ask that you do have a visit with your primary dr.  just to make sure there are no other underlying issues. Again, not a frequent request, but could happen.

Best of luck.
