Hi,

Dont know if I am becoming neurotic, but since the op I am being extra careful about everything I put in my mouth!!!!

I was just wondering now that I am back in the gym, whether high dose protein (i.e. protein shakes used by amateur and serious bodybuilders) could cause gynecomastia to redevelop. I ask becuase I know there are dietary things that can cause it, and I wondered if this might be one ...I mean, does high protein cause more aromatization or anything like that????

Wanted to be absolutely sure before I go ahead with consuming the stuff.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

If you are taking whey protein (a favourite among people who work out) then it will not cause gynecomastia what so ever.  My doctor realized I wasn't getting enough protein in my diet so he actually recommended that I could take it.

Yeah, ditto to what shy said.

I highly doubt if protien powder would cause Gyne.

0% chance if you take Whey Protein

...there is also Soy protein, which may increase estrogen levels...just stick to Whey and there is absolutely 0% chance

...95% of powders are Whey anyway...also if you get the Whey, don't worry there's no Soy in it

...Soy is basically a vegetarian protein powder
...Whey is made from Milk

So just so we're clear, there is 0% chance if you take Whey Protein...and maybe a .01% chance if you take Soy

I use skim milk and one of those hand-held blenders.  add some fresh fruit, berries are good, 'cause those powders taste like crud.

A high estrogen E2 to Testosterone ratio is the main reason for gynecomastia.

Try Isopure, I use the vanilla flavor and it is actually not bad.  This is how I make my shakes: in a blender I put ice, milk, peanut butter, ice cream, creatine, Isopure, and honey.  I enjoy them, not a chore to drink at all.

I got one sweet breast.  Grrrr.

Try Optimual Nutrition (ON's) whey protein in chocolate. Its the best tasting and nicely priced.

I paid $55.00 shipped for a 10 pound tub of it!

soy protein doesn't raise estrogen levels, that is bullshit. the argument for that is that soy contains photoestrogens... big deal, so do tons of other vegetables and legumes, etc. I would be more worried about the hormones and antibiotics in meat and dairy!

How can you take out the hormones in  meat? I eat loads of meat a day. Just tonight I went through 1 pound of ground serloin...

I think I am going to vegitarian.
