Traveling for surgery?

I am planning on traveling 4-5 hours to NY for surgery. If there are no complications, am I clear to return home after the surgery? I know typically surgeons require post-op check ops. How would this work, being so far away?

Just travel back for your post-op check up! If it worth going that far for the surgery, it equally worth it to go back for the post op as well!

Don't know who your surgeon is but when I have patients who live many hours away, I strongly recommend that they stay at least overnight so that I can check them the next day before they travel home.  Just being careful and safe.  It is not a good idea to have surgery and then travel 5 hours immediately after the procedure.

Thank you. Staying overnight is no problem. But I'd rather not have to make another trip back unwarranted. Assuming everything goes well, do you think it is safe to drive the day after surgery?

Yes, assuming all is well, then it should be possible for you to travel on the day after surgery.
