Hey all, I'm a 17 year old gyne victim. I posted here a while back about my situation and I still haven't built up the nerve to talk to my parents about this.. or the solution (surgery). The main reason I haven't talked to them about it because from what I've seen the surgery runs about 3-6 thousand dollars. How do I go to my parents asking them to consider something that is going to cost so much money? Also I get the feeling when I do talk to them they are going to say that it's not a big deal. What are some good ways to go about talking to them about this? I REALLY need help on this.

Btw, are there any trusted gyne specialists in the southern ontario area or anywhere around there? If yes how much do they normally charge? Thanks..

check out Dr Fielding in Toronto, i just had my surgery with him and my out of pocket was 1200 plus tax..OHIP covers a big chunk of it so 1200 is all you pay (the lipo fee), the excision of gland, anasthesia etc is covered by OHIP...

Welcome Broh!

There are two experienced Gyne PS's in Southern Ontario. Dr. Lista and Dr. Fielding. Dr. Lista performs Gyne removal at his clinic and not a hospital therefore you pay for the entire proceedure yourself. Dr. Fielding on the other hand, performs his surgery at St. Josephs Health Center in Toronto and the majority of the operation is covered by OHIP. What you pay for is the Lipo portion of the proceedure as it is considered 'Cosmetic' and OHIP will not cover cosmetic surgery.

Most guys in the last few months have been paying between $1000 - $1200 for Lipo by JCF ( Dr. Fielding ).

Check out the 'Canada' section on this Site for more info on JCF.

JCF did my excision and lipo this past February. My out of pocket was $1280 ( inc. GST ). Check out my 'Before' and 'After' pics. Click on the 'Pics' link in my Sig below.

any idea why Dr Lista would choose to do it in a way such that OHIP does not cover it? Do they not pay as well?  Fielding does a great job, and he's utilizing our health system, i pay all these taxes and the way i look at it, my taxes just paid for my gyne to be gone (wasn't so bad doing my taxes this year :) )

I have heard a lot of good things about this Dr. Fielding on here. Just out of curiosity...how much would it cost in US dollars for someone paying for the whole thing (no insurance)?

Something to keep in mind when you start biatching about all the taxes that you have to pay.  ;)

People biatch about high taxes but when services are cut to lower taxes, those same people start biatching about how their services have been cut out. They want their cake and eat it too....  :-/ Can't have it both ways....  ::)

$3800 is most likely for excision of the gland only. Lipo, if needed, would be extra. That's my guess....
