jeez that's scary, you could see all the detail of a zit  ;)

saw a display pushing bluray and it showed you regular dvd versus br in split screen.  it was pretty nice, i'd probably get it once my player bites the dust, but i'm worried if i do, the next-gen format will be just around the corner.  i just don't like the entertainment people ripping us off to buy the same movies over and over.  i would never pirate movies if i knew how - unless i already owned them in another format.

Blu-ray is backwards compatible....  just carry on with your collection in the BR format...

Yeah, my recent additions are:

The Dark Knight.... awesome flick! Heath Ledger gave a brilliant performance. Paralleled to Anthony Hopkins 'Hannibal Lektor' in Silence Of The Lams... (on Blu-ray in March '09)

WALL-E.... cool movie!
The Matrix Box Set.... The Matrix on Blu kicks some serious ass let me tell you!!!

wall-e was good, worth seeing.  and you're right about ledger in batman, he was brilliant, even better than hopkins in lambs.

of course his character was even more twisted and interesting than lector  ;)

I see that Heath Ledger is up for a 'Supporting Actor' award...

Supporting? WTF? C'mon.... Heath was the 'Star' of the movie...

I really hope he gets it...

Grandpa,

Robocop IS a great flick:  "Stop...or there'll be....TROUBLE...."

You young men need to rent it if you haven't seen it.  A classic, for sure.

I've not jumped into Blu-ray- my kids have taught me all I know about HD, etc.  Hate to invest in another entire set of movies.  I've finally pitched all of my VHS tapes, and believe me, we had a ton.  Those I haven't pitched are in the garage getting warped (Florida sun).

Nice thread here, BTW.

if you have anything irreplaceable on vhs, like family movies or some truly obscure movie you can't find on netflix, you can get a little usb drive gadget with tv cables plus a software disk like roxio creator ($79 for the package at costco) and convert it to dvd through your computer, if you're willing to spend the time.  shame there's a lot of good stuff to be lost on cassette.  no disrespect to blu-ray, i'm still thinking of one myself (walmart had a special after thanksgiving for $128/unit), but you know they're probably finishing the next format behind it even now.  agree again on the joker, an old stock role, and he took it into arguably the greatest movie villain of all time.  how far we've come since the 60s tv series!

In 3 -5 years people will be downloading high def movies with the speed and harddrive percentage taken up as we download songs now.

TVs and computers will meld into one. Every TV will have a huge hard drive of several terabytes for storing movies and shows.

History repeats itself, the movie industry is the music industry of tomorrow.

There will be "movie ipods" which are the size of a pack of cigarettes and can hold 1000 blu-ray movies and can jack into any modern TV.

That sounds sweet.
