when can i change to compression vest, and how often is it safe to aspirate?

1) When (how many weeks post-op, assuming normal surgery etc) can i change into a compression vest? This would imply the tissues have healed enough to tolerate the squeeze and minor struggle into said vest.

2) How often is it safe to aspirate? I'm experiencing fluid build-up but my doctor says not to aspirate more frequently than once every 7 days...though I get the sneaky suspicion he might just be being lazy...he comes into the hospital only for appointments!
