Ive noticed that my chest is not like most men's chests.  I recently found out that I may have this condition.  I also found out that it could be removed through surgery.  I had a few questions about this.

1) I don't want my parents to know that I have this condition.  Can I still get it surgically removed without their consent? (I'm 18 so legally an adult).

2) How much is the procedure?

3) How long does it take?

1) Yes, you're an adult you don't need anyone's consent. But a lot of people (including me) find comfort in telling close friends and family. It's good to have support and not have to hide everything.

2) It depends on which route you take. In England you can get it done free through the NHS if you're lucky. Some surgeons will only charge £1000 (€1160) but usually they are not as experienced as more expensive surgeons and often do not do as good a job. More experienced surgeons can cost in the region of £3000-£4000 (€3500-€4660) but usually yield really good results

3) A lot of people come in the morning for the surgery and leave later in the day. Some surgeons like to keep you overnight for observation, others do not. The recovery is the more timely part of the process and it can take months before you feel "normal" and years before scars have faded and your chest has completely settled.

Surgery in itself is extreme - but equally it has extreme results too, people with large breats have surgery and the next day have a completely flat chest that changes thier life forever.

I am a college student and I have vacation till the end of August, if I choose to get surgery for gyno will I be fully recovered by that time in order to be able to go to college?

Will the surgery have any long term side effects that could prevent me from focusing on my studies?

I am also a regular at the gym, how long will it take for me to hit the gym again if I get surgery?

I am new to the health insurance field so I am wondering who would end up paying the bill?

This may seem like a dumb question but if I chose to get an appointment with a surgeon, how much would that cost and how would the payment for that work (My parents usually deal with setting up doctor appoinments so im new to this)?

Like you I'm on 'vacation' atm but will be starting education a month later than you in October. I've got my surgery booked for 14 days from now. My surgeon told me that by the time I start university again I'll be completely fine!

I've read a lot of different stories but I mostly hear that people are recovered very well after 4-6 weeks. Remember everyone is different, some people take around 8 weeks and sometimes more.

The instructions from my surgeon say "Excercise is reccommended at around 10-14 days after surgery." I'd say start light cardio after 2 weeks and maybe give it a month or maybe longer to begin weight training. Many people say thier body literally tells them when it's ready to begin going to the gym again.

You need to understand that you're going for surgery here. You will go under general anaesthetic and there are many potential risks, look up the risks of anasthesia on google. Saying that, it's very rare that complications occurr and the most you'll probably have to worry about is when your scars will dissapear!

Look at your health care plan. I've seen some american people that managed to get thier health plan to cover certain costs such as a percentage of the hospital fees. But I will tell you know that it's unlikely that many medical insurance providers will pay up as this is seen as cosmetic surgery.

Most surgeons request a small fee for a consultation, I personally paid £70. I'm sure you can get your hands on cash? The surgery will most definately take that!

Dude...  you may not even get in for the procedure itself until after the end of August...     If you figure in the wait time for a consult, then the wait time to have the actual surgery... you could be looking at 6-8 weeks here dude...  It all depends on the surgeon though... You 'might' be able to get in right away, but the chances of that are slim...

It all depends on what country you live and what sort of health care coverage you have... If you are in the US, then you will most likely have to pay for the consult up front. $100-$500, depending on the surgeon.
