Alright guys.

Looking for some advise here.
About 5 months ago I noticed a small lump, kind of bud under my left nipple, it's got bigger and is now maybe a bit bigger than a 10 pence, its a round shape hard and not really sore unless I touch it, or poke around with it, its still directly under the nipple, I went to the doctor today expecting to be told it was nothing but she refered me to a specialist, this has worried me badly infact I've been on the internet ever since looking up male breast cancer. I did suffer from this sort of thing before when I was about 19 but it was in both nipples and went away after a few months I think to be honest I cant even remember if I went to the doctor. I am 27 6ft and about 13 stone. Does this sound like I might be suffering from gynecomastia?. Thanks.

i doubt its gynecomastia. The only reason i say this is because u are 27, not in puberty.

The suffering from Gynecomastia is rarely physical and almost always psychological. There is a very slight chance that there could be some kind of pathology involved so your Doctor is simply being cautious and checking things out thoroughly.

Those things about which we worry most rarely happen.

don't freak out about cancer.  what you described is exactly how my gyne started and exactly what i thought it was too.  gyne is most common in puberty and senior years, but it can happy to you any other time.

* if it screws up your life the same, is there really any such thing as "mild" gyne?

Hi robbie, i've just been through the same thing and had the consultant litterally say it may be cancer so i can appreciate how you feel. As titmouse said they maye perform a core biopsy which is what i had, again as titmouse said its not the most pleasent thing but they do numb the area first and it's a little uncomfortable for a day or two afterwards but not really bad. Honestly if you have it done you'll realise its no where near in terms of pain what you were expecting. Just a word of advice... don't start looking anymore at breast cancer stories on the net as all it does is fuels your worry. Think positive mate i know it's hard but its the best way. I hope all goes well for you, you can private message me if you need to ask any questions or talk.

Breast cancer in a male of your age is virtually unheard of.

On the other hand, I have had patients who developed one-sided growth even after puberty.  Would recommend you seek advice of an endocrinologist and then perhaps visit a plastic surgeon.  You may want to have a mammogram or sonogram along the way.

Good luck!

Symptoms of Gynecomastia can include one sided breast growth, tenderness, and many others I posted in that link.

Male breast cancer is quite rare. Signs to worry include extremely firm mass, bloody nipple discharge, and one sided growth in older men.

Gynecomastia Surgery does not stop breast growth. Stabilized problems have a much lower chance of regrowth after surgery. Tender growing breasts are Red Flags in my practice that trigger an Endocrinology evaluation recommendation.

One Sided or Unilateral Gynecomastia is quite common.  However, more often both sides have some problem one more so than the other with Uneven or Asymmetry Gynecomastia.  Contouring both sides on uneven gynecomastia is much easier than trying to make a larger side look like a smaller deformity.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for all the replys, I have nothing coming out my nipple and it's not inverted or anything. I think I have just got so worried cause I expeceted the doctor just to say it's nothing, go home and forget about it, but the doctor seemed quite concerned and when I said it will just be a cyst or something she said well we dont know that. Thanks again.
