I was wondering how long some of you guys was required to tape your nipples after surgery?

What does taping your nipples actually accomplish in the end, if anyone knows?

I'm 2nd day post-op and my nipples aren't taped
My doctor never mentioned anything about taping the nipples.

The tapes are called "steri-strips."  Oftentimes, surgeons will use dissolving sutures under the skin and then steri-strips on the surface.  Other surgeons use stitches underneath and on the surface -- with no steri-strips.

The steri-strips are used to reinforce the wound, particularly if it is sutured under tension (tightly).  In my practice, I use it on certain cases, such as a tummy tuck or female breast reduction.  On most of my gyne cases, I do not use steri-strips.

In sum, it is a personal decision on the part of the surgeon -- there is no right or wrong on whether they are used or not.

Thank you,

So I guess taping a month and beyond isn't needed.

Thanks again
