I have a little predicament on my hands here. My surgery is on 4/4 and I just found out that one of my best friend's engagement party is on 4/7. Will I be able to go to that and look in good spirits? I'm trying to not let too many people know about my surgery. It's really just my parents that know.

That's a tough one. I'm scheduled to have my surgery tomorrow so I can let you know what shape I'm in a day or two afterwards so you can have a better idea. You're a Giants fan (so am I, REPRESENT) so I'm guessing your from or around the tri-state area, I wonder if you're going to the same guy I am...hmm...

Anyways, the first three days post-op are the most crucial. Upper-body movements, especially at the shoulder joint are going to have to be very minimal during the first week or two after surgery. An engagement party involves lots of hugging, hand shaking, and other activities that most docs would consider a no-no so soon after surgery. My two cents: you shouldn't go to the party, or you should try to reschedule your appointment. Not to sound like a buzzkill, but how well you treat yourself post-op and how closely you stick to your doc's instructions will make the difference between good and bad results.

Hope that helps!

I was not going to reply being that I'm a cowboy's fan.. J/K..

Regarding your question, I was in no shape to do anything for at least a week. I had complications from surgery (hematomas). Some guys are able to recover very quickly. I was one of the unlucky ones.

Everyone is different. Specially when it comes to post op swelling. I had to surgeries. The first one side swelled up to a B cup. The second swelling was very small. My advise to you would be to where an outfit that ensures no one can see any swelling or your vest.

Additionally, avoid booze. A few days after surgery you are still in the critical healing stage. So you do not want to do anything to slow your bodies ability to repair.

if you go the movements would be the hard part, no drinking, dancing, hard hugging, etc. everyones diff so its hard to say exactly.

Yeah it doesn't really seem like I could go. I can't reschedule just because they worked so hard to push me up 2 months from my originally scheduled date. Looks like I just can't go. Now I'll have to make up an excuse...how's about a grandparents Anniversary party or 80th birthday sound?

I had surgery thursday and today is Monday. Yesterday I couldn't goto my buddies' daughters 1 year bday party, but this is mainly due to these dmn drains. If you are not going to have drains (and don't have any complications) you could probably go. I would definitely take it way easy and if drank, limit it to one or so.  My guess is you won't really be in the 'mood'. My only interests have been sitting he and trying to move as little as possible and just really trying to heal correctly.

Another question I have, since my surgery is coming up and I'm getting more and more anxious....How long until you start feeling like yourself again?

I had my surgery on Monday, and it's now Wednesday. If your asking when the anxiety will go away, obviously that won't be until you've had the surgery haha. As far as afterwards...I feel great today. The day of the surgery I was nervous that I would move a certain way and damage the surgical site, but I was totally fine. The first night it was a little hard to sleep. Yesterday I felt better, the pain was mild and I just took some advil to take care of it. Sleep was much better last night. Today I woke up feeling great; I feel 100% like myself (except I still have the ace bandage around my chest, I'm getting it removed Friday). Zero pain today, and I feel 100% more confident today that the results will be good than I did the past two days. The initial stiffness and tightness is fading away and mentally I feel fantastic. You have nothing to worry about. Nothing to fear but fear itself, as they say. You'll be fine bro! ...although I would defiantly do illegal things to be able to take a shower right about now....

Haha thanks for answering! When are you allowed to take a shower?

I'm going for my pre-op appointment tomorrow by the way.
