42C well with your indignant and irrelevant comments I think that if you actually read my OP you either need remedial reading, or to take a few deep breaths in a paper bag before you post replies.

Well maybe that's not entirely correct, the young man's family I mentioned is certainly distraught over the prospect of losing him. It makes no sense to me.
In my case my mum abandoned me when I was 7, so my grandma (her side) took over raising me. She raised me as a tomboyish little girl with sewing, knitting, and decorating wedding cakes until I was about 17 when my father told her to butt out.

Forced to go through testosterone treatments to try and stop the "wrong direction" of puberty was my reality until I left home. Living in boy-mode became my reality. It was expected by my family.
Much the same many of us endured in our teens being different.

It's just reality, and it is what it is.

It just seems unfounded that discrimination about it exists, and even worse within a family. Recent trends are making that discrimination much more pronounced.

But again, it is what it is. If things are not good in Texas I need to go where they are.
When life gives you curves,
flaunt them! 💃

the grand irony here is housing discrimination.

Federal Statutes
  • Fair Housing Act (FHA)

    • Statute: 42 U.S.C. §§ 3601 - 3619
    • Key Sections:

      • 42 U.S.C. § 3604(a): Prohibits refusal to sell, rent, or otherwise make unavailable a dwelling because of race, color, religion, sex, familial status, national origin, or disability.

        • Text: "It shall be unlawful to refuse to sell or rent after the making of a bona fide offer, or to refuse to negotiate for the sale or rental of, or otherwise make unavailable or deny, a dwelling to any person because of race, color, religion, sex, familial status, or national origin [or disability]."
      • 42 U.S.C. § 3604(f): Specifically addresses disability discrimination, making it unlawful to discriminate in the sale or rental of a dwelling because of a handicap (disability) of the buyer/renter or anyone associated with them. It also mandates reasonable accommodations.

        • Text (f)(1): "To discriminate in the sale or rental, or to otherwise make unavailable or deny, a dwelling to any buyer or renter because of a handicap..."
        • Text (f)(3)(B): Discrimination includes "a refusal to make reasonable accommodations in rules, policies, practices, or services, when such accommodations may be necessary to afford such person equal opportunity to use and enjoy a dwelling."
      • 42 U.S.C. § 3607(b)(1): Provides exemptions for "housing for older persons" (e.g., 55+ or 62+ communities), which some assisted living facilities might qualify for regarding familial status restrictions.
    • Relevance to Assisted Living: Applies to most private and public housing, including assisted living facilities, ensuring no discrimination and requiring accessibility/accommodations for disabilities.
  • Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973

    • Statute: 29 U.S.C. § 794
    • Key Section:

      • 29 U.S.C. § 794(a): "No otherwise qualified individual with a disability in the United States... shall, solely by reason of her or his disability, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance..."
    • Relevance to Assisted Living: Applies to facilities receiving federal funds (e.g., HUD subsidies), prohibiting disability-based discrimination and requiring accessibility.
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

    • Statute: 42 U.S.C. §§ 12101 - 12213
    • Key Sections:

      • Title II: 42 U.S.C. §§ 12131 - 12165 (Public Services)

        • 42 U.S.C. § 12132: "Subject to the provisions of this subchapter, no qualified individual with a disability shall, by reason of such disability, be excluded from participation in or be denied the benefits of the services, programs, or activities of a public entity, or be subjected to discrimination by any such entity."
      • Title III: 42 U.S.C. §§ 12181 - 12189 (Public Accommodations)

        • 42 U.S.C. § 12182(a): "No individual shall be discriminated against on the basis of disability in the full and equal enjoyment of the goods, services, facilities, privileges, advantages, or accommodations of any place of public accommodation by any person who owns, leases (or leases to), or operates a place of public accommodation."
    • Relevance to Assisted Living: Title II applies if the facility is run by a public entity; Title III applies to private facilities’ public-facing areas (e.g., rental offices), requiring accessibility and non-discrimination.
Texas State Statutes
  • Texas Fair Housing Act (TFHA)

    • Statute: Texas Property Code Chapter 301, §§ 301.001 - 301.171
    • Key Sections:

      • Tex. Prop. Code § 301.021(a): Mirrors FHA’s prohibition on discrimination in housing transactions.

        • Text: "A person may not refuse to sell or rent, after the making of a bona fide offer, refuse to negotiate for the sale or rental of, or in any other manner make unavailable or deny a dwelling to another because of race, color, religion, sex, familial status, or national origin [or disability per § 301.025]."
      • Tex. Prop. Code § 301.025: Adds disability-specific protections, prohibiting discrimination based on a handicap and requiring reasonable accommodations.

        • Text (a): "A person may not discriminate in the sale or rental of, or make unavailable or deny, a dwelling to any buyer or renter because of a disability..."
        • Text (c)(2): "Discrimination includes... a refusal to make reasonable accommodations in rules, policies, practices, or services if the accommodations may be necessary to afford the person equal opportunity to use and enjoy a dwelling."
      • Tex. Prop. Code § 301.042: Exempts certain housing for older persons from familial status rules, similar to federal law.
    • Relevance to Assisted Living: Directly applies to assisted living facilities in Texas, ensuring protections align with federal standards.
  • Texas Assisted Living Facility Licensing Act

    • Statute: Texas Health and Safety Code Chapter 247, §§ 247.001 - 247.082
    • Key Sections:

      • Tex. Health & Safety Code § 247.025: Establishes licensing requirements and standards for assisted living facilities, indirectly supporting anti-discrimination by mandating care quality for all residents.

        • Text (b): "The executive commissioner shall adopt rules regarding... standards for the facilities that provide personal care services and other services to elderly persons and persons with disabilities."
      • Tex. Health & Safety Code § 247.026: Sets standards for accessibility and accommodations, tying into federal disability laws.

        • Text: Rules must ensure "the accessibility and safety of the facility for residents, including those with disabilities."
    • Relevance to Assisted Living: While primarily regulatory, it supports anti-discrimination by ensuring facilities meet accessibility and care standards, complementing FHA/TFHA protections.

The sanctimonial attitude of, why would they do this, is exactly what privilege is. Just because they haven’t experienced discrimination, yet, means they can’t conceive what it actually feels like. And, until it happens to them, they will never understand.

Interesting that you consider real life reactions to discriminatory actions by government to be irrelevant.  Sadly, America has a history of mistreating minorities.  I guess as a student of history it isn't easy for me to overlook such things.  You don't strike me as an unreasonable person but suggesting folks afraid for themselves are overreacting strikes me as strange.  I always appreciated a co-worker who used the line "You never know until you're in the bullfighters shoes."  Perhaps my experience as a survivor of childhood sexual trauma has sensitized me to such things.

The trans Americans turning to guns for protection
"Trans people have every reason to be afraid," said on trans woman who went out and bought a gun after President Trump was elected.

I have been on the defending end of lawsuits so many times and spent at least 150,000.00 in payouts when I was in business.
I don't like lawsuits and would never sue anyone.
I only fought Amtrak once when they failed to strap down my wheelchair once and only asked for a new wheelchair and hospital bills covered.

Birdie,  I interrupted my evening to post this.

I was thinking about you.  The narrow mindedness of that subset of culture.  ( I have family in TX and spent 3 months there last year,) so I feel your pain.  Please take this from one who cares about you, all of humanity, please.... be strong.  Be you.  The fight is hard and going to be long,  science, us, we, will defeat this ignorance.

From 42c:
"I'd be more inclined to respect this comment if you hadn't gone on a diatribe of your own at the beginning of this thread.  I would welcome a less combative engagement with you but you make it difficult.  (My guess is you've had too many years listening to Rush Limbaugh to engage in civil conversation.)"
_____________
You just proved my point - I wasn't "combative", nor did I "diatribe".  While all sorts of subjects are discussable here, the primary purpose of the site is discussions re gynecomastia.
Why did you mention Limbaugh? No one else here did.  You "guess" ?? Based upon what?? (I haven't stated any political preferences, although as an American who has travelled and lived in Europe, the Middle East and Asia I will say that I do freely choose America over anywhere else.)
I wrote was that name calling doesn't 'win' a debate, nor make any valid point except to display bigotry on the part of the name caller.
However, I am human, and will generously flatter you with imitation:
Stuff your bigotry up where your head is, since you seem to be wearing your butt as a bonnet.

i typically stray away from political talk. I am finding so many internal contradictions and fallacies in every walk of life these days its at near pathetic levels.  The current trend of 'Trumpism" is IMO a sign of that. Where for 4 years under the Biden crowd trans this and that was made normal. now a kickback has started. (And expected) but for those of us who are simply wanting to just go about life are getting caught up in stupid discussions over who is right or wrong.

All of us here have various stories to tell and vary widely as they are the same. Regardless of the right or left faction, we are all still male with girls on our chest.

Some of us are evolving outward and others its a simple matter or overactive hormones. This isn't political. Hormones and genes dote vote.  But the outward display of 'were right and your wrong" mentality is painful to see. I disagreed strongly with many aspects of Biden, and strongly disagree with things of Trump.  But now the 'right" seems emboldened to confront and openly attack those of us who simply want to be left alone. But the same was true a mere 4 months ago for those who were simply saying, leave us out of this.

5 years ago I would have been to far outside any discussion to consider this "normal". But now my body has strongly shifted to the girl side in many ways without the intervention of hormones or other aspects with only a 50mg spironolactone influence. Hardly a full trans act. thus i say "Hand of God".

But yet, I have to now be cautious because that pushback has started. this is a result of modern education. Plane and simple.

The Democrats went to far. Transwoman on the men’s swim team one year, on the women’s the next year. Oh and they get to shower with the women also.
Who in their right mind would think that there would not be a huge pushback on this.
Parents don’t want trans in women’s sports or in the locker room. That is their space.
Trampling on women’s rights just because a few think they have more rights than women didn’t go over so good. You wanna cut your Johnson off...by all means go in the women’s locker room. Until then......STFO!
And anyone who believes they should be able to use the women’s locker room...don’t have children or are mentally ill.

For those who may be interested in what it is like to have ambiguous genitalia.  It appears this person lives elsewhere so they won't have to contend with the "new laws coming."  She'd be in a world of hurt in Texas... much as our friend Birdie finds herself.
