Doctor not taking case seriously

I'll start off by saying I'm brand-new to the boards but I've read some things on the site and I've read other articles about gyno.

I'm using Tricare and my female doctor doesn't seem to believe I have gyno and that there is any problem.  I literally asked her on my first and only visit (to her) so far if I can get a referral to someone that might specialize in this and she didn't follow up on that at all.

She examined my chest and I had blood work done.  I saw another doctor or nurse a week later and she said my blood work came back normal and I asked her about a referral and she told me that the doctor mentioned my problem as inflammed tissue in her notes.  She also mentioned there wasn't anything she could think of based on what the doctor wrote.

My problem is I know I have gynecomastia because I'm not very overweight and I work out a lot (and I'm modestly muscular).

My gyno is roughly equivalent to "Steve" on this page, in fact my nipples are a little more pointed:

I'm supposed to speak to my doctor again on Monday, since she was out on vacation for a week or two.  I'm going to let her know my opinion that this is a serious problem, but I'm worried she'll just tell me there's nothing she can do/think of.

Any advice?

My doctor also told me that there is nothing I need to worry about. But why do you need the referral of your doctor?

why dont you just go to another doctor? and im not saying that because you're not hearing what you want to hear; but the fact that honestly from what you explained, she doesnt seem to think anything of it.   From my experience, my family physician said it was baby fat, at age 16...a lot of doctors seem to think it is a bogus condition...but honestly go to a different doc.

few women doctors get it.  someone once posted about replying to one how she'd feel then (like someone's mentioned on another current thread) if she started growing a d**k, but only a tiny one, nothing to worry about at all.  

that's when she started getting it.

I was mentioning a referral because of two things--I still don't know if there's a field of medicine that would better deal with the issue and in some ways I wanted more than her opinion.  Even now I know, as I had suspected the day she examined me, that she doesn't consider it a real problem.

I'm just worried another doctor is going to say the same thing, but seeing your opinions I should chance it anyhow.

Dude, you should definitely go see another Doctor.  Some of them are such morons, so whenever you don't feel satisfied, get another opinion.

Or.....  how would your female doctor feel if she grew a bit of a moustache (as many women do but get them waxed off) and was not able to shave/wax it off and had to suffer with it. How would she feel going out in public sporting a stache and everyone staring/pointing/laughing....  

That's exactly what I would tell a female doctor if she said 'Oh, it's nothing...' or something similar....

that's when she started getting it.  

I have a mixed opinion on female doctors. On this. When I first was diagnosed I had to have an ultrasound and the doctor who did it was a woman. She looked at me and said 'why are you here ?' um for  you to look at my chest Ihave gynecomastia..... I said getting a bit embarrassed. She then says 'this is nothing , it's just baby fat why are you worried about this.?', I was 25 at the time  This is before she did the test .

And I had just been told by a male doctor it was gyno.And it was on my notes for her to look at.....

On the other hand I saw a female Doctor a while back who was much more clued up on this and very sympathetic.I think it is a roll of the dice with doctors male and female.

My primary care physician (male) noticed it immediately and was very sympathetic with me and respected it as a condition...he referred me to a breast surgeon (female) who was completely cold about it and said it shouldn't be an issue (F*CKIN B*TCH), i was then referred to my plastic surgeon (male) who immediately recognized the problem and started his game plan from minute one...

Conclusion: Avoid female doctors when it comes to gyno cuz they're completely apathetic towards it... F*ck 'UM!

My doc (male) acknowledged my problem but laughed and said every PS will do the exact same thing and to just go to any when I specifically asked to be referred to Dr. Fielding. He said he'd refer me to whoever and he did so with Fielding when I asked but he generally didn't know anything about gyne except to do my blood and rule out hormones.

You can't expect non specialists to know everything

Before my surgery,i had found 4 doctor , only 1 doctor take my case seriously,another 3 they think i am joking.

I agree with the view that the girls don't get it; even when the girl happens to be your Doctor.

My attitude about my Gynecomastia moderated greatly when I realized that the girls either did not seem to notice or didn't seem to care.

There are two possibilities: 1. You really do have gynecomastia but she percieves your breasts as being small and masculine compared to a women's breasts.  2. You're making a BFD out of nothing.

You'll need to see a male Doctor to find out which is true.

My primary care physician was a male and he told me not to worry about it and that it would go away... well it still hasn't. I wish gynecomastia was more well known as a condition.
