Day 1

Got to Dr. Jacobs’ office at about 11am. I was not at all nervous since I’ve had surgery before and knew what to expect. I was just really F’n excited that my man boobs were finally going to be gone. Met with Dr. Jacobs and the anesthesiaologist, Dr. Noorbaksh, and then went in for surgery soon after.  Dr. Noorbaksh injected me with the “happy juice”, which made me feel like I had a buzz from having a few beers and then in a blink of an eye I’m waking up 3 hours later.  When I woke up I wasn’t in pain at all. The local anesthetic was still doing its thing and I was just totally numb in my chest area. The only thing that was kind of annoying was the fact that I was twitching/shivering uncontrollably for like 10 minutes (that’s normal according to the Docs).

I was taken to the recovery room and had the IV taken out and then went to the bathroom and forced out some urine, which was no small task. Once my mom arrived we both went in and spoke to Dr. Jacobs and then made our way home. The drive home was probably the worst part of the day. The anesthesia was wearing off and I could feel blood dripping down my sides.

Finally got home at about 4pm and napped for about an hour or so. Sleeping on your back with a binder isn’t bad at all if you position pillows in the right places (had one under each elbow). Had some yogurt and then some soup an hour later.

For whatever reason my neck and both of my calves are really sore. Especially the calves. Someone explain that to me if they can.

Anyway, at about 9pm I took two of the pain killers that Dr. Jacobs prescribed and then went to bed. Woke up in the middle night because 1) the binder freaking sucks and 2) I guess I didn’t eat/drink enough when I had the painkillers. I easily had the worst stomach ache of all time. It felt like my insides were being ripped apart for about 30 minutes.

Day 2

Not too much to report today other than the fact I was pretty sore. I especially felt it whenever I stood up. This binder sucks balls. I cant tell if I’m uncomfortable because of the bandages pulling at my skin under the underarmour and compression garments or just because of the general soreness the comes along with the surgery. Probably a combination of the two, but either way it blows. I’m just pretty much counting down the hours so I finally remove the bandages, see my new chest, and take a shower.

*EDIT*
I recommend shaving your armpits before the surgery should you not do so regularly already. When I first tried on the underarmour lycra shirt that is worn under the compression garment and binder, I found that it pulls at your arm pit hair since it is a size or two smaller than what you would typically wear. I'm glad I did it because having the hair still there would have just added to the annoyance that already comes with wearing the binder. If you do shave, be sure to do it 4-5 days before the surgery.

I totally forgot about the Boiron pellets that Dr. Jacobs gave me and took 5 of them a few hours before I went to sleep. They are supposed to help with swelling and bruising.

I only took one painkiller and ended up sleeping much better last night.  However, I woke up at about 5:30am because of the binder. I CANNOT WAIT to take it off.

DAY 3

After being up for a few hours watching TV I took 5 more of the Boiron pellets and went back to sleep. Wow, what a difference! I don’t know what it was, but I felt so much better. It’s crazy how I can feel that much better after napping for a few hours. Even the pain I felt whenever standing up minimized substantially.

THE MOMENT OF TRUTH! Finally 48 hours post op!.....MY MAN BOOBS ARE GONE! My chest looks waaaaaay better than I expected. Great shape and not as much bruising as I anticipated.  The only complaint (more like an observation) is just the numbness. It kind of bugs me out not having any sensation on my chest.  Anyway, it felt great taking off that freakin binder for a little while. For anyone who reads this JUST HANG IN THERE! The binder becomes far more tolerable after you take off the bandages and shower. It’s like night and day. Oh, I also weighed myself and was surprised to see I was about 2.5 lbs lighter after getting my boobs cut out. Sweet!

In the evening I started to feel a slight tingling/itchy/painful sensation on the sides of my chest. No big deal, it is just a little irritating. I’m hoping like hell I can avoid the itchiness that many have encountered on this site. We’ll see.

Anyway, I’m fired up! Tomorrow I’m going to see how (un)noticeable the compression garments are under my work clothes. I work in finance and have to wear a button up shirt to work. I will post pics to give you all an idea what to expect when you wear compression garments under clothes.

Wow congrats.. Nice one! even just after 2 days you look really flat...and almost no bruising.  Are you still sore?

I too am going with dr. Jacobs soon, that blood leakage on the first day looks scary!  How did you manage to get rid of the stains on the vest?  Also the vest looks rather bulky can you hide it under a shirt?

How bad was the pain/discomfort?  I have a low pain threshold so am a little concerned.

Keep posting! and good luck

Day 4

Had my best night of sleep since surgery.  I didn’t take any of the prescribed painkillers.  I did however take two extra strength Tylenols even though I probably didn’t need them.  I only got up once in the middle of the night to use the bathroom as opposed to the multiple trips I took the first two nights.  I forgot to mention that Dr. Jacobs said that I had to drink lots of fluids after the surgery in the forms of Gatorade, soups, water, protein shakes, etc... Just no alcohol or carbonated beverages in the first 48 hours.  Anyway, because of all of the fluids you obviously will be making a lot of trips to the pisser, which was a pain in the neck the first two days.  Getting up out of bed or a chair is really the only time I’ve felt any pain. Four days in I’m still a little sore whenever I get up, but it isn’t nearly as bad as it was the first two days.

Went out for the first time since the surgery and drove. I felt some pain on some turns, but really nothing major at all. It felt good going out and just wearing a t-shirt. I didn’t adjust it once because I’ve how flat I now am.  In case you’re wondering, the compression garment and binder are not visible except for one little bulge at the top of the binder.  It is really only noticeable from the sides and you have to be looking for it.  It’s nothing to worry about though. Having man boobs made me an expert at concealing bulges.

I’ve been feeling a slight burning sensation on my sides. I guess the best way to describe it would be a very minor case of sun burn. Don’t quote me on that since I’ve only had sun burn once in my entire life. Black people tend to not get sunburn hahaha.  It’s not all that painful, but it has been irritating because of how prolonged and frequent it has become.

Took my second shower since surgery. Things are continuing to look good. I applied more Neosporin and arnica gel to the appropriate areas. Oh, I also found out that the burning sensation I’ve been feeling is just my binder chaffing my sides. I actually have developed some slight bruising there.

I decided to put the compression garment and binder into the wash to see if I could get some of the blood stains out. To my surprise a lot of it did, which is great since I didn’t want to risk staining my dress shirts when I return to work.  So aside for the underarmour shirt, I was garmentless for about 40 minutes, which felt odd.  As much as I would like to say that I don’t need the garments, the opposite is the truth. I just didn’t feel comfortable without the support.  Don’t get it twisted though, I still hate that stupid F’n binder!

I went to a graduation party and no one noticed the compression garments. The only thing I was worried about was when I had to hug people. With proper technique it isn’t a problem.  Just don’t give prolonged hugs and only really use your arm and shoulders. Works like a charm! I also had a few beers. I made sure not to take any painkillers or Tylenol since I knew I wouldn’t be able to turn down coronas or sam adams summer ales on a nice day.   For the most part the only pain I felt during the party was just the chaffing near my arm pits courtesy of the binder. I will say that it continues to get more tolerable with each passing day.

All in all I’d have to say that today was a really good day.

COMPRESSION GARMENTS/CLOTHES/WORK ATTIRE

This site has provided me with an abundance of information since I stumbled upon it. The posts in here by the users are what helped me tell my parents about my gyne and ultimately schedule the surgery with Dr. Jacobs. However, the one thing I really couldnt find in here are pics of what the compression garment/binder looks like under clothes. The visibility of the compression garments under my clothes, especially my work attire, was a HUGE concern of mine before I scheduled the surgery. I knew I'd be wearing the garments for a month and was worried someone at work may notice.

Anyway, since no one has contributed a detailed post like this I decided to make it my prize contribution to this great website that has helped me so much. Just a small payback i guess.

I work in finance and am required to wear a buttoned-up dress shirt Monday-Thurs (tie optional) and can wear a Polo on Fridays. I wear a suit jacket once in a while, but didnt bother wearing one in any of the pics. You'll see why...

PICS (I am 6'2 and weigh 222lbs)

Let's just start with what I'll be wearing under all of the clothes in my pics, which is a sleeveless underarmour lycra shirt, compression garment and a binder

as you can see the garments are not visible except for a very tiny bulge at the top of the binder. concealing it is a piece of cake for anyone with gyne since we're masters at hiding it as best as possible....i actually wore the black polo shirt to a graduation party and no one was the wiser. just be carefull when hugging someone and you'll be fine.

I hope this helps someone!

Day 5

Best night of sleep by far.  Sleep was completely uninterrupted.  Continue to feel better and better with each passing day.  I’m pretty much pain free at this point aside for a random pinch here and there.

Went in and saw Dr. Jacobs for my post op check up.  He said that I have as good of a result anyone could ask for just 5 days out of the surgery. I have virtually no bruising or swelling, which is fantastic considering how much gland and fat were removed. Apparently I had an equivalent of a LITER of soda removed from my chest during the operation! That’s a crap load of man boobs! Wherever the remains are I hope they get burned!

Dr. Jacobs recommended that I replace the sleeveless underarmour lycra shirt with one that has short sleeves. So I picked one up on the way home and it definitely has made the garment and binder much more comfortable.

Big day tomorrow. I go back to work for the first time since surgery.

Day 6

Had my first day of work today since the surgery and it went great. no one had a clue that i had surgery and was wearing compression garments under my clothes. I didnt feel pain at all my entire time in the office. I have started to feel more tingling and slight itching sensations, which havent been an annoyance as of yet. Just one other observation was that i felt a little short of breath and dizzy at one point.  I wasnt worried because I spend a lot of my day on the phone and was just worn out after a lengthy conversation. i was fine after i concentrated on taking more deep breaths.

my posts will be less frequent since i'm feeling so well and there isnt really anything new to report. i'm pretty much just counting down the days until i can take of the compression garments and resume working out. i plan on starting P90X and getting rid of that gut!

i'll try to upload photos ever couple of weeks and post something if anything interesting happens. feel free send me a message and i'll respond as quickly as possible

Day 13

everything is going great. i am pretty much pain free at this point. i havent felt any of the random pinches in like 5 days. i feel so good that i could probably get away without wearing the compression garments anymore. the original plan was to wear them for 4 weeks, but i think i may at least stop wearing the binder some time after day 20 and then just wear the compression garment as a stage 2 for a couple of weeks.

i've experienced virtually no itchiness, which i'm thrilled about. that was actually a big worry of mine after reading some of the posts in this forum. is it too early to tell or does that start later on in the healing process? if anyone knows the answer feel free to chime in.

over the holiday weekend there were a couple of nights where i didnt wear the binder when going out to bars. i just couldnt risk one of my friends noticing it. i did however wear the compression garment. i figured a few hours without the binder cant hurt.

nothing else to report besides that i've been sleeping on my sides a little bit here and there. probably the worst part of this entire experience has been sleeping on my back, which hasnt really even been that bad.

that's all for now. i will post updated pics in a few days

Good results let me ask you did Dr. Jacobs remove the gland via an incision or did he remove out with his canula ?
And thanks for posting the pics with your vest on you were right their was not to many pics before yours.

Day 29

wow, i cant believe it has been four weeks already since the surgery! i feel great. i have stopped wearing the compression garments during the day. i am still wearing the binder to bed and will continue to do so until i can lay down on my chest for a prolonged period of time without discomfort. i'm also still wearing the underarmour shirt during the day. i actually love the way it feels under dress shirts. i think i will be wearing it permanently whenever the weather is warm.

there really isnt anything new to report except for the fluctuations in my weight. before the surgery i was just under 225 lbs..2 days after i was just under 222..a week after the surgery i weighed just under 227..and now i'm back to just under 222...apparently, that is normal after surgery. also, a lot of my friends keep asking me if i lost weight (none of them know of the surgery). getting my moobs cut out really makes me look a lot slimmer!

anyway, i'm starting P90X this saturday. will let you guys know how eveything feels after working out.

oh, and i have been taking pictures, but have had problems with uploading them to my computer. i will post a bunch of pics soon i swear.
