Pre-op appointment today at 1.45! Kind of excited almost, but anxious at the same time.. Will update later tonight on how it goes, hopefully it'll be good news and I'm really hoping they'll give me a surgery date, but not sure if that's how it works..!

Okay just got back from the pre-op appointment. She explained the procedure breifly, took some blood for the blood tests and took blood pressure etc and went through the standard health questions.. With regards to the areola reduction, she said that if I decided against it I can just tell Mr Masood on the day of admission.

With regards to operation date, still no date. However, she gave me a number for the people who deal with all the dates etc and I phoned them and asked if they had any idea, and she said based on his patient list and as he's currently taking a lot of leave, she anticipates I'd have the operation late january to mid feburary, which falls inline with what I was initally told my Mr Masoo himself. I guess I'm dissapointed in that I'd love to have it sooner, but atleast it's not any later than originally said my the surgeon. I think she said she'd look to see if I could have it on a Saturday over the christmas period but I'm not sure how likely this is etc.

Next thing I need to do is get back to get with my exam dates for school and then I guess it's a matter of waiting to see when the exact date is..

The nurse said I'd need to wear a compression vest 6 weeks night and day after the op, that sound right? She also said I really would be better off NOT going to 6th form/school for 1-2 weeks after the operation.. I think this seems a bit OTT going on what other people have said, what are peoples thoughts on this? As I'm in my 2nd year of 6th form this would be inconvenient and could have quite a negative effect on my education, it would also be annoying as I plan to keep the whole thing on the down low from friends etc, so being absent for 1-2 weeks would cause a bit of a stir I think!

Any advice/thoughts on recovery or anything else to do with it, feel free to input!

With regards to your compresson garments you can buy umbro football ones in sports direct for under £15.

For time to wear them i would go with the nurse. i my self have been training hard and was told not to worry.

As for recovery time of two weeks i would definately take the two weeks off due to having them both done you will be immobile for at least 3days. If you go back to school you might end up pulling the stitches out and they might be internal therefore increased swelling or worst bleeding.

You still need to realise this is not a wisdom tooth out, your under general anasthic.

What might be a good idea is going to ur teachers and asking for the work that is covered over those two weeks you have off.

If by any chance you start to feel better after the first week go back to school but be careful.

Those vests wont do for after the op though, you need a proper surgery type vest for after the op. I think i wore mine for a week non stop and then just at nights for a week afterwards. you wont need it on for 6 weeks! After that point you could use a sport type compression vest!

As for 6th form, its hard to say because its school and youl get knocked around and stuff. Your chest will be painfull for a month or two to touch! Any knocks its like getting kicked in the balls! But youd be alright to go in after a week id say, you wont have full mobility though youd have to take it very easy

I see. The problem is I don't plan on telling people about this operation (other then immediate family) because I'm so ashamed of the problem etc and just would not want people to know, anyone got any suggestions/stories on covering it up? What excuse has anyone else used?

Okay I phoned up earlier to let them know my exam dates, she said she'd get back to me sometime next week and let me know if she can get me in at the beginning of January (exams are 25th-28th, I figured I could use the recovery time to stay at home studying for exams as It'd give me a good way to occupy the time, any thoughts on this idea?) I think she said there's almost no way I'd be able to have it this side of the new year so fingers crossed for right at beginning of January, find out next week I guess! Otherwise it'll be feburary sometime..

Okay here's a pretty BIG update guys.

So I was expecting to hear from the lady at bookings the week after my last appointment, heard nothing.. Phoned her up friday afternoon, she said she'd get it sorted first thing monday... That week went by, still nothing, once again phoned up friday afternoon, "first thing on monday".. Well still hadn't heard anything, so phoned up first thing this morning (so she could sort it today) and she said she was speaking to Mr Masood later today about dates etc.. Anyway she just got back to me and...

If i want it, I can have the op 22nd Decebmer (yes, 3 days before christmas!) Apparently I'll still in hospital 2-3 days, so I could be home on the 24th, otherwise it could be on Christmas day.. now she seemed to think that's something I wouldn't want to do, but personally I'm thinking Yes!!! Otherwise I MIGHT be able to have it on the 9th of January, however otherwise it'll have to be in Feburary sometime as I have exams on the 25th until the 28th (January) for school, and so I can't have it interfere with these. Obviously if I have it on the 22nd, I'm off school for Christmas break - so this imo is ideal. + It could be the best christmas present ever! That would be I have exactly 2 weeks off school before I have to go back, obviously this would mean I should then be recovered enough to cope at school when I do have to go back.. So hopefully won't have to miss any time off. Personally I don't mind if it does mean I'm in hospital christmas eve/day, yes it'd be a shame in a way, but because of how important it is to me I think it'd be better to go for it than not.

The only issue is work, I'm supposed to be working boxing day and other days over the christmas period, which obviously I wouldn't be able to... Now I don't know legally I stand, i'm only part time - Would they have to respect the fact that if I needed the time off that they've just have to give me it, even if it isn't at their best convenience? Also as I don't what people to know what I'm having done ( was planning to say I broke my ribs) I'm not sure entirely how to deal with it.. Do I have to tell them what/provide evidence? Or do I just phone in on the 22nd/23rd and say I've broken my ribs and I can't work for the next few weeks?

Anyway, really happy about this, seems like it's finally going to happen.... I'm personally leaning to saying yes I'm going to go for it, but first I'm going to speak to my family and just see what they think, she said to let her know why afternoon Monday ideally.. So I've got a couple of days to think about it if I like.. would also like to hear your guys thoughts and opinions on the matter.

personally i think the worst thing you can do is lie about it. I'm not saying tell your employer in detail what you're having done but lying about why your off in my opinion is not the way to go. I told my employer i had to go into hospital for surgery and may be off for a week or two afterwards and all was fine (i gave them quite a few months of notice), yes your employer has to respect any medical issues you have but you are under no legal obligation to tell them what you're having done. If i were you I'd have a quiet word with your manager and explain you need to go in for surgery, if they ask what for simply say you have some cysts/lumps that needs removing. If they're any kind of manager they'll respect that and confidentiality.

Think I'm just gonna tell people i'm having a 'lump' removed and say I'd rather not talk about it etc, I don't really want to but guess it's the safest option! Not sure how friends etc will react to it but we'll have to see..

Hi Mate, Go for it!!!, i was slightly the same, i went for an appointment with the surgeon on 20th Oct and he said to me i could have it done the following week on the 28th and i haven't looked back honestly mate. I work in a school and i had to be straight with them, i told them i had to go in for surgery and was accepted, legally they cannot force you into revealing any more than you wish. I have been wearing the compression vest night and day (apparently very lucky to get one on NHS(FANTASTIC BY THE WAY), yes it can get uncomfortable but after a while it becomes snug, i can remove mine on 9th December and that will be full 6 weeks post surgery, i am so pleased with my results mate, i have asked for vouchers for xmas to replace my wardobe!!!, I am back at work Monday and my employers have been very understanding, my advice would be give yourself the best christmas present you have ever had, go for it, keep in touch and let us know how you get on bud!

Here's some pics I just took, here my nipples look at about there worst (largest and puffiest) in one picture I circle a nipple, this is after it has wrinkled slightly, that sort of size I'd be happy with.. They go even smaller wrinkled when its really cold etc. Do I need the areola reduction? Or do you think they'll shrink to a satisfiable size (i.e. the circled nipple or smaller) just by having glandular excision and lypo?

Best way forward mate, i think as you said lying can backfire. At lease if your honest you have nothing to worry about letting anything slip out without thinking that would reveal why you were off work. Good look with it all mate!
