rockin813 you're my hero. How did you decided 153 was the magic number for fat burning, simply by what works? Is there a formula that calculates the optimum fat burning zone? I know 120-140 is the general rule. As I increase my cardio level of incline and difficulty level, I still see that my heart rate is going down i.e. my body is adapting and getting stronger.

Your cardio zone is typically 50-85% you max heart rate.  Your max heart rate is 220 minus your age.  So for me 220-40=180, so 85% is 153.

And yes the stair climbers/elipticals are best for heart rate and calorie burn.   I do the Cybex arc trainer everyday and people can't believe the calories you can burn.  Today I did 1400 in one hour, and could have pushed it even higher.

It is by far the best piece of cardio equipment I have ever found.
