TV Show can offer top treatment

what I saw of this programme was my flatmates all laughing their socks off and taking the piss out of everyone that was on there. Either that or going "euurrrrrrgh"

Playing devil's advocate here....you will get people who will laugh at the news when they see reports of disasters/other peoples misfortune. Does not necessarily mean that the news report in question was badly reported/should not have been reported at all. Some people are just like that (normally tends to be people that are not the sharpest tools in the shed from my experience....no offence to your flatmates intended)

I don't understand that show... I mean, if these people are too embarrassed to go to a GP to discuss their problems, then why on earth would they go on a TV show in front of the nation??? Just doesn't make sense.

But good luck with the program. I will definetly watch it, but would never volunteer to put myself in that position, not even for a LOT of money! I'd have to move country, would never live it down!

I think if anyone actually did watch the last series of Embarrassing Illnesses they would agree that no one was made to look like a 'moron' or were they portrayed in a negative way. The whole idea behind this programme is to raise awareness about issues which people feel are too embarrassing to seek help for thus removing the stigma of the problem and helping the many fellow sufferers watching the programme to come forward.

the programme is a deliberate circus of freaks molested by pseudo-doctors and if you're asking me if I'd want to be on it you can piss off. thanks but no thanks

haha. my flatmates aren't the kind to laugh at the news. I guess my general point was that their reactions are indicative to the style of the show ie: less than serious, more about entertainment

don't know if anyone saw this but Embarrassing Bodies has been on Channel 4 again recently, with someone suffering gyno on there.

The show was typically exhibitionist about peoples' problems (some women's vag was on display 7pm on a Sunday, thanks Channel 4  ) - the section with a guy suffering from gyno was very short though, had frequent references to the condition as 'man-boobs' and was pretty un-informative.

Don't know if the guy involved had been on these forums, but I guess getting your op paid for privately is maybe worth the exposure.
Good to see something about gyno in the media, however I'm not sure how helpful the programme was.

I am a fan of embarrasing bodies, but as a whole ive been dissapointed on the whole how theyve shown gynecomastia on their!

First example i can think of was of a 13 year old lad, with huge man boobs. Seriously like a C cup the male doctor said basically "yeah youve got breast tissue, but it can be lost with weight hopefully". And he was right in saying that and the little lad was obese and starting to go on a weight loss regime but it just gave him complete false hope of him actualy losing the moobs through this only. And no doubt a lot of other people with it. There was also an older bloke with on their with gyne who had a complete crap surgery result which i left me feeling uninspired!

As for sunday's episode, Pixie said "yes you definatley have glandular tissue, coupled with fat". And he got sent for Lipsuction only?

What puzzles me the most is that ive seen Karidis on the programme doing womens breasts. Why isnt some of his surgery used in the programme im sure it would inspire loads more sufffers to go and get treated!

On the whole a good programme, but with gynecomastia doesnt do it justice im afraid

Emma do you know if Karidis would be performing the surgery? You know what I would love the opportunity to get the surgery done, i spend most days worrying about how i am going to afford it, Yes my mates would probably laugh at me, but what is worse, living with these lumps or getting laughed at? surely people would forget about it after a while and i could spend the rest of my life lump free!

I agree, she said there's breast tissue and DIDN'T offer excision-madness,  the breast tissue will remain and possibly grow.

In fact you could still see it in the finished result i thought.
