hello, i am now in the 5th week post op. there is this swelling( puffiness) in the left areola where as the right one is just fine ( a bit bruised though). in the pic attached, could you tell if that's just swelling that will subside eventually or is it residual glandular tissue? (on pressing, the swelling is a bit painful)

Photos don't always tell the entire story.  Also, remember that you have one chest but two breasts -- and they often heal at different rates.  Best to be patient and give the healing process a chance to proceed before you panic.

You appear to have some retraction of the incision at the bottom of the areola. This may resolve with time or may require a minor revision under local.The retraction maximizes around a month. Some local massage may help loosen things up.
