Try priceline.com for hotels.  I got a 4 star (Westin) for $80USD.  If you want to go for a 2 or 3 star you could bid much less.  See biddingfortravel.com to see what 2-3 starts have gone for in Toronto.  JCF's office is only a short ride on the metro from the city (20 min's maybe).

hey guys make sure the whole thing is worth it... i paid 99$ for a two double beds room at the four points hotel which is 5 min away from the st-Joseph's hospital with the street car... its really not that expensive and quality is just right.

Yeah, I highly recommend the Four Points by the lakeshore. It's very close to St. Joe's as brebguy mentioned. Very convenient!  
The food isn't the best so you may want to order in a Pizza...

But hey, it's just one of many hotels in T.O.
