Sigh.
They only cover things if it's "a medical necessity"

Don't give up yet.

If you are having Depression, Anxiety, Social isolation, Etc. and this can be shown to exist as a result of your Gynecomastia; A well written letter from a psychologist may get the insurance company to re-examine your case. It may sound like a bit of a stretch, Using surgery to treat a psychological problem; but it has worked for some men.

What have you got to lose?

So, see a Psychologist and appeal the denial.

You should definitely try an appeal to the insurance company. Include a letter from your doctor, a letter from a psychologist (if possible) detailing the psychological pain, and perhaps the results of a consultation with a plastic surgeon -- and, if you didn't include pictures in your original claim, do so now.

Also, go over your particular health insurance in detail to see if they ever cover this procedure. Certain plans will cover it, but only if certain conditions are met, such as: the gyn has been present for a certain amount of time, it is not your "fault" (e.g. gyn from steroid use), and it helps if you are not overweight (which may suggest to them that the gyn is due to that).

Include all this along with a letter describing your case.

Good luck!
