my name is Emma Barron and I'm working for Channel 4 television on the new series of Embarrassing Illnesses. We are making a programme that specifically focusses on breasts and problems with breasts. yes I agree i wouldn't call it an illness either but unfortunately thats the name of the programme and we do want to cover issues that are deemed to be embarrassing to people. One of the main reasons that people want to take part in the programme is to raise awareness and to help the many other people out there who are suffering in silence. TV shows tend to get a bad reaction here but, personally, I would be interested, had I not already gone through an op.  Making more people aware of the 'condition' has got to be good.  Far too many people remain silent and embarrassed about it.  Good luck with the programme.

What exactly is "top treatment" ? Its generally only the top that needs doing with this problem... Or are channel 5 doing a similar programme offering slightly low quality treatment with more ad breaks?

Exactly - the way the TV company edit it, the choice of footage and commenty/script that goes with it can make you look like a complete moron and you will have no control at all to stop it once you sign the forms and let them film you etc.  Personally I think it would be stressful enough without having a film crew for national broadcast follow you around. I think they should really not only fund the op but also pay the person to make it worth considering - after all they are making money out the people taking part by selling advertising slots during the ad breaks of prime time viewing hours

have to say im surprised with so many people all depressed about not affording the surgery etc. that noone has volunteered. i think the main reason being that not many people are open about their condition and wouldn't want everyone to know. this is a good opportunity for someone to raise awareness about this condition.

 You don't need to come on here preaching to US about how it's an important issue. "Raise awareness" my bum. I'm no circus act, and as desperate as I am to have the op., I'll be giving this a miss, and urge others to do the same.

I think if anyone actually did watch the last series of Embarrassing Illnesses they would agree that no one was made to look like a 'moron' or were they portrayed in a negative way. The whole idea behind this programme is to raise awareness about issues which people feel are too embarrassing to seek help for thus removing the stigma of the problem and helping the many fellow sufferers watching the programme to come forward.

I would assume that a serious website about a serious condition would be receptive and keen to help in our aim to achieve this goal. Also can I remind you that I am speaking for our particular programe not the media in general.
